Zimbabwe’s economic woes threaten Harare’s dreams of being a ‘sustainable city’

Harare, once dubbed the “Sunshine City” for its cleanliness and order, is now dealing with consistent declines in the quality of basic services. Problems like waste collection and disposal, crumbling water and sanitation infrastructure, and air pollution all weaken the city’s status as a “sustainable city” by UN standards.
