HARARE – The High Court has deferred to today the hearing of a matter in
which parents are suing government for ordering a re-sit of the 2017
Ordinary Level English Paper 2 examination, following allegations the
paper had leaked through social media.

The applicants, Victor Mukomeka on behalf of his child Charmaine Mukomeka
and Chingasiyeni Govhati representing the interests of Ebba Anesu Govhati,
have cited Zimsec and Primary and Secondary Education minister Paul Mavima
as respondents.

Their lawyer Belinda Chinowawa yesterday confirmed the postponement to the
Daily News soon after the matter was heard before High Court judge Loice

“It was postponed to tomorrow (today) because the minister and Zimsec
needed time to file a response,” Chinowawa said, adding that the matter
will be heard before High Court judges Matanda-Moyo and Nyaradzo

The current litigation came after the government ordered a re-sit for the
English Paper 2 exam, this coming Friday, resulting in parents challenging
the decision, which they argue is not feasible, considering some of the
students are outside the country.
