HARARE – Another Zanu PF Harare youth league official appeared in court yesterday on allegations of extorting $46 200 from home-seekers using First Lady Grace Mugabe’s name.

Moses Handiseni, Zanu PF Glen Norah district political commissar, was granted $500 bail when he appeared before magistrate Tendai Mahwe.

Handiseni is jointly charged with former Harare youth league provincial chairperson Godwin Gomwe, Muchineripi Mupindu, Hamphrey Madenyika, Norah Toronga, Fidelis Ndaradza, Haruwandi Munyawiri and Josephine Hadziyendi.

As part of bail conditions, the group was ordered to report once every week at CID Law and Order, not to visit the consortium offices or interfere with witnesses and reside at their given addresses.

They were remanded to June 17. Allegations against Gomwe and his accomplices arose after reports that they had participated in a meeting in February where they instructed complainants to affiliate to an unregistered consortium in the name Dr Amai Grace Mugabe Consortium.

The court heard that Gomwe told complainants that this would bring them closer to the First Family and instructed each cooperative to pay $120 joining fee.

After paying the money they would be issued with receipts letter-headed Amai Dr Grace Mugabe Consortium.

A report was made to the police after Handiseni approached the consortium members demanding more money, the court heard.
