FARMING equipment worth thousands of dollars belonging to Ambrose Mutinhiri, a Zanu PF Politburo member in the running for the vacant co-vice president post, has been attached by a local bank and will be auctioned on Saturday in Marondera.

Mutinhiri who is the MP for Marondera West and his daughter, Vimbai, who is a well-known TV personality, model and actress, had their farming machinery attached by a local bank, CBZ after failing to settle an undisclosed amount they owe the institution.

The loan was acquired through the company, 1st Leo Minerals and Resources, which has been cited as the first respondent, while Mutinhiri and Vimbai have been cited as the first and second respondents respectively.

According to a notice issued by the Marondera Deputy Sheriff/Messenger of Court, the auction will take place on Saturday at an industrial site in Marondera town.

Among the property to be auctioned are a John Deere 5400n tractor, Ford New Holland 56-40 tractor, International 4wd MXU115 tractor, five strides markers, boom sprayer, four wheel tractor trailer and three inch irrigation pipes.

A fighter in the liberation struggle with the Zipra forces and a retired Brigadier General in the Zimbabwe National Army, Mutinhiri who is also a former Cabinet minister, last month told local media that he was in the running for the position of Vice President at the Zanu PF congress slated for next month.

Traditionally the post for the second Vice President in Zanu PF has been reserved for former Zipra forces. The post has remained vacant since the death of John Landa Nkomo last year.

“I have thrown my hat into the ring for the job (Vice President),” he said then.

“The party has not given anyone a go ahead to campaign but naturally you have to tell the people about the decision that you have made.

“I am confident that I will win. I will not talk about others who want that position. I am my own man and product.”

Mutinhiri joins a long list of senior Zanu PF officials who are failing to service loans they acquired from various financial institutions and are having their properties attached and auctioned by the banks.

Amazing. No more money to steal. As they say “easy come easy go”. Clearly not successful as a farmer despite the handouts. What a botch-up.
