Auxilia follows in Grace’s footsteps

Following Emmerson Mnangagwa’s promotion to VP, he relinquished his parliamentary seat for Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe constituency. In all constituencies where parliamentary seats are vacant, aspiring Zanu (PF) candidates submitted their CVs. Two aspirants handed in their resumés for the seat vacated by Mnangagwa.

But all of a sudden, the two applicants withdrew, leaving Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxilia, standing unopposed. Last year, Mrs Mnangagwa attempted to convince the country that her husband was a ‘soft man.’ This is the man who oversaw CIO operations during the bloody decade of Gukurahundi.

This is a man whose name is only whispered when one has checked left and right to make sure nobody is eavesdropping. Two weeks ago, Kudzai Chirenje, a former member of Mnangangwa’s security detail, was found dead just 48 hours after a dispute with the VP. A colleague of the deceased revealed that after Chirenje’s cellphone was seized, some damning evidence was discovered in his text messages.

In thanking Mugabe for promoting her husband, Auxilia famously knelt and clapped her hands, in the ingratiating manner of a beggar who has been given a bowl of mouldy bread crusts. Mugabe likes a boot kisser. It was not mere sycophancy on Auxilia’s part, but a calculated ploy which now appears to have paid off.

Just like first lady Grace, Auxilia too is on the verge of boarding the gravy train that is Zanu (PF). If her husband succeeds Mugabe, Auxilia might inherit the presidential cheerleading squad, otherwise known as the Zanu (PF) women’s league. Except then Mnangagwa’s crocodile smile would replace the Hitleresque moustache that has jiggled for three decades on the dancing derrieres of Women League members.

Were Mrs Mnangagwa’s rivals coerced into pulling out from the party’s primary election? You make up your own mind.
