A CHIREDZI magistrate has issued a warrant of arrest to a Chikombedzi man who failed to appear in court for trial on allegations of insulting President Robert Mugabe.

Nyashadzashe Ndawi 28 from village Haisa, under Chief Sengwe in Chikombedzi was scheduled to appear before a Chiredzi Magistrate Honest Masiiwa facing charges of undermining the authority of the President.

He however did not turn up for trial at the Chiredzi courts resulting in a warrant of arrest being issued.

Allegations against Ndawi are that on 4 December last year, at Chikombedzi business center, he used obscene language to describe President Mugabe in a discussion with his colleagues.

Prosecutor Liberty Hove told the court that Ndawi was overheard shouting the unprintable words describing President Mugabe by detectives patrolling the business center and was promptly arrested.

Embattled former war veterans leader Jabulani Sibanda, is also facing allegations of insulting President Robert Mugabe, which is criminalised by Section 33 (2) (b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

His case is pending before the courts on $400 bail.

Allegations against Sibanda are that he claimed that Mugabe wanted to replace Mujuru with First Lady Grace Mugabe while addressing a group of war veterans in Mutasa last year.

Sibanda is alleged to have vowed to block the plan, saying “power was not sexually transmitted”.

You don’t need to insult Mugabe – just by being who he is, each day he insults himself. Degrades his humanity, insults Africa generally and Zimbabwe especially.
