THE Employers’ Confederation of Zimbabwe (Emcoz) will hold a collective bargaining summit as it moves to social dialogue in the labour market.

The summit runs from November 19 to 21 at Kingdom Hotel in Victoria Falls.

Emcoz said the summit would target decision-makers from the National Employment Councils (NECs) in preparation for harmonious negotiations for 2015 remuneration and minimal labour disputes.

It said the economy was declining leaving the populace with challenges.

“The labour market must find a way of sustaining the economy until fundamentals are stabilised. This calls for employers and employees to seriously engage each other in order to restore sanity in the economy,” Emcoz said.

The summit will discuss on improving the national economic competitiveness as the pivot to economic stability. The summit aims to anchor economic performance on a sustainable basis and productivity-based remuneration.

It will also explore how institutions funded by the labour market (NSSA, Zimdef) can contribute to economic revival and well as exploring
productivity-based remuneration.

The declining economy has affected companies resulting in many closures. Workers have borne the brunt as some have been retrenched without their monies as companies are struggling to pay benefits.

Statistics from the Retrenchment Board show that over 5 000 workers have lost their jobs since the beginning of the year.
