via French businesses explore Zim opportunities – DailyNews Live 28 January 2015
HARARE – A French business delegation — including executives from multi-nationals Alstom and Bureau Veritas — was expected in Zimbabwe yesterday on a mission to explore investment opportunities.
The business people, in the country for three days, are set to meet several government ministers and managers of top Zimbabwean and international companies, with the support of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI).
“Ten companies make up this business delegation. Many of them would like to develop or invest in Zimbabwe,” said French ambassador, Laurent Delahousse.
“They represent a large range of sectors: infrastructure, utilities, transport and logistics, industrial projects, Information Communication and Technology, service to government and security,” he said.
Gérard Wolf, the delegation’s head and also vice chairman of the Africa Committee of MEDEF International, said the French business community sees Zimbabwe as a growing partner in Africa.
“French companies are convinced of Zimbabwe’s economic potential and investment opportunities. The trend of new comers is increasing smoothly as the country offers a good environment for international investors,” said Wolf.
Wolf also said French companies are committed to contributing to achieving long-term development objectives and growth, especially in the field of local managers’ training.
“They have the technological expertise and capacity to lead, integrate and take part together with local and international partners in the numerous projects planned in the near future of the country,” Wolf said.
Last year, a British business delegation also visited Zimbabwe to explore investment opportunities, but expressed concern over policy uncertainty among other issues.
