Grand theft of 31 July bears no fruit

Sixteen irretrievable months have elapsed since Zanu (PF) scammed the nation on 31 July 2013. The ruling party will tell you it defeated ‘Western regime change agenda’ and insist that it has a solid economic blueprint, a mirage known as ZimAsset, and that the economy is improving.

But the truth is that nothing has improved, since the grand theft of July 2013. Government struggles to pay salaries as its revenue base continually atrophies owing to monthly retrenchments and company closures. The parliamentarians, whose sworn duty it is to represent the populace, are preoccupied with living lavishly. In a place where nothing makes sense, the MPs of a broke country fly to a cushy holiday resort where, lulled by the rush of the roaring Victoria Falls, they discuss budgetary matters. These are the same MPs who are owed thousands of dollars in sitting allowances and happily received $30K double cabs from a government that cannot pay them salaries. Nothing makes sense anymore.

The desperate Zanu (PF) government recently introduced taxes on mobile money transfers and probably mulled taxing the very air we breathe. Government seems annoyed that some citizens have solved the water problem themselves, after the state had completely failed in its duty. Tax on boreholes is the result.
