Kick out all Chinese nationals: Biti’s PDP

ZIMBABWE must, immediately, kick out all Chinese nationals, the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said Monday.

The opposition party accused Beijing of blatantly pillaging the economically crippled country.

Little of the mega-deals promised by Beijing have materialised but the Chinese have externalised billions of dollars from Zimbabwe, leaving behind a collapsed economy with millions of locals unemployed.

“The PDP calls on all Zimbabweans and other international stakeholders to come together and call for the Chinese to exit our country immediately,” said Willias Madzimure, PDP Secretary for International Relations.

“They (Chinese nationals) have contributed nothing of value except to aid a corrupt and repressive political system while looting away our national resources.”

President Robert Mugabe, a former darling of the West knighted by the British Crown, pivoted towards China after western capitals shut their doors on him; displeased with his violent rule and electoral chicanery – so they charged.

But more than a decade after adopting the so-called Look East policy, Beijing has profited from the arrangement while Harare boasts of “unemployment of 90% … (while) 4.5 million citizens are in need of food aid”.

The most blatant looting, said Madzimure in a statement Monday, related to the diamond discovery at Marange in the eastern Manicaland province.

“By its own admission, the failed Zanu PF regime confirmed … that the Chinese were looting diamond money,” he said.

“Mugabe, in a bizarre admission, informed the suffering masses that under his watch Zimbabwe lost a whopping US$15 billion worth of diamond revenue.”

The pillaging was conducted with the connivance of dodgy Chinese businessmen who have since been jailed by Beijing.

“The government worked with a coterie of shadowy Chinese companies such as Anjin, Jinan among others which were fronted by criminals such as the now jailed Sam Pa,” said Madzimure.

He added: “The Chinese have literary invaded the national economy and are milking all the profits back to Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong.

“One of the striking features of the Chinese operations is that they do not pay their taxes and smuggle goods into the country by undervaluing their goods and not declaring most of their imports.

“They also bribe ZIMRA officials at the borders and offer handouts to ZANU PF politicians as ways to evade paying taxes and thus prejudice the nation billions in revenue.

“More dangerously, the Chinese have some of the most deplorable labour relations. They over-work their employees, under pay them and often assault them at work places.”

While looting the crippled nation, Beijing has also actively worked to ensure the “failed” Zanu PF regime remains in power.

“In return for having been given unfettered access to the national economy by the desperate Mugabe regime, the Chinese have offered political protection at international level,” Madzimure said.

He continued: “Thus the Chinese are at the centre of Zimbabwe’s challenges.

“By, on one hand, aiding and abetting the criminal Mugabe regime and, on the other, salting away billions of dollars from the country, the Chinese are killing the country twice.

“They are sustaining and perpetuating oppression of the worst kind while ensuring that the present and future generations of the country are permanently economically disempowered and disinherited forever.

“This is the worst kind of imperialism and as Zimbabweans we must rise and resist it.”

Zimbabwe, the PDP official added, has little to show for Mugabe’s much-vaunted ‘Look East’ policy.

“Any investment must be mutually beneficial to both parties but in our case it is the Chinese criminals and their local puppets that are eating the national cake.

“All which is there to show for ordinary citizens is deep seated poverty, squalor, hunger and a scared environment, a permanent mark of the historical looting of our minerals by Chinese thieves.”

True, but you want to blame us? No. Why you let your OLD PEOPLE to run down your own country. How can a young Xi play game with almost 100year old on the other side. It’s like Heads you LOSE, Tails we WIN.
So, please not blame the China people for your sleeping life. Your leaders are old but they are clever, they can drible your young people. Means you are the problem yourself. Look us, our President Xi will be there only 10years, no more. And we choose our best brainy person to replace him. You keep with the old person, what you expect? Not us only taking. Your people near, surrounding your President also take more. They just want us to take them to dinna and there, they tell us…Gave me what %? I say what you want, they say 15% no less. I say OK. Tomorrow, everything OK! Me I am businessmen, no time to waste. I include his % on the invoice and take mine give his in his account. So, why you blame us? You said no one in retail, only for local people…right? So, go to outside and see. We are in retail…we are locals people? Why you not action this? Because you people are very sleepy

We have no one but ourselves to blame for our predicament. Chasing anyone away will not solve the problem, it will only create room for someone else to step in and loot us. In the 1600s we chased away the Portuguese only to be colonized by the British 300 years later. In 2000 we chased the white settlers and their parent countries, where are we now? Our problem is we cannot compete, we want the easy way out all the time. Instead of looking elsewhere we should simply be rolling our sleeves up and work for, and organize, ourselves. No one will give us a free supper in this world and none should. So long as we find every excuse under the sun not to work for ourselves and manage our resources properly we will always be exploited – no amount of noise, blame or crying will change that.
