PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe yesterday said Zimbabweans should get rid of British remnants in the farming areas.
Speaking at the installation of Chiefs Alfred Tome Beperere and Johannes Kanyoka Chidziva of Zvimba at Murombedzi growth point, Mugabe said traditional leaders should not worry about land shortage as the country had enough, only if they kick out the remaining white farmers in the country.
“Chief Zvimba, musatye nzvimbo iripo (don’t be afraid, the land is abundant). We still have some of us who are hiding white farmers in the name of contract farming. Those ones, we will remove them,” he said.
“The land is ours. The British who are here should all go back to England,” Mugabe said.
He warned black farmers against harbouring whites in the name of contract farming, saying it was a “dangerous arrangement”.
“Don’t enter into contract farming with whites. It’s a dangerous, dangerous arrangement that we don’t want,” Mugabe warned.
Turning to the installation of traditional chiefs, Mugabe pleaded with Chiefs Beperere and Chidziva to unite their people as the chieftainship was laced with fights.
Mugabe, who is part of the Beperere and Chidziva clans that were fighting for the throne, conceded that that there were so many fights among members, with some going to the extent of seeking the legal route.
He urged the chiefs who were installed to work together to bring unity among the villagers and members from both families.
Due to the feud that went on for more than a decade, the families agreed to enter into a truce where two chiefs, all coming from Chief Zvimba, were installed.

1. Matebeleland/Mthwakazi is the most diverse of all provinces both culturally and linguistically;
2.Possibly 75% or even more of people of Matbeleland speak more than one African language, unlike in Shona speaking provinces where the people there speak only one African language; their mother tongue;
3. Politically, Matebeleland is the most peaceful and less crime-infected province of all provinces. Even the latest farm invasions are by people from outside the province;
4. There is population control; the region is spacious and there is no overcrowding. Its a pleasure to live in Matebeleland hence you never find the region’s people running away from their home provinces to other provinces unless its for political reasons as happened during gukurahundi;
5. The people of the region never seek to dominate others but are very accommodative and always try to integrate with locals whenever they are in other provinces. In other words, they always DO AS THE ROMANS DO, WHEN IN ROME;
6. The region’s people are generally not showy and are never arrogant when dealing with others. You will never find a Phil Chiyangwa in Matebeleland;
7. Its only people of Matebeleland who look beyond tribe in voting for leaders; and
8. Its only in Matebeleland where you find people from other regions in LARGE numbers in both employment areas and schools/Colleges;
The list is endless, to justify here views!

I am constantly amazed and the reaction these type of stories generate and looking at the comments it creates a healthy platform of discussion and comments. I don’t believe that all the comments come from so called ‘Whites’ (I prefer to refire to ‘Zimbabweans’ no matter what colour) which means that there is a general consensus of opinion about this type of comment from our so called leader. which is nice to know, however i do now believe that these types of comments are being made more often now as the ‘clueless politicians/ leaders’ who practacly ticked their own boxes and now are in charge of our country’s welfare do not nor ever had a clue about how to overcome the problems that they have created, and these comments are just a distraction to the reading public so that we don’t ask to many questions. I do believe it is time to change that!
