Kufuor disagrees with Mugabe; Ghana has made progress

Former president John Kufuor has dismissed claims by President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe that Ghana is still in the same undeveloped state it was when he met his wife Sally in the 1960s.

“I have been to Ghana 1958 to 1960 and when you look at them now and compare their present situation to that [which] existed in the 1960s, no change.

“There might be more people. Yes. There may be one road from the airport, which has been well done so that people who visit the country think everything is ok,” Mugabe said.

But speaking to Kafui Dey on Morning Starr on Starr 103.5FM on the occasion of his 76th birthday, the former NPP leader said the assertion by the 90-year-old leader is an opinion which is not true.

“That is his opinion and I would leave it at that… but Ghana definitely has made some improvements, in fact fantastic improvements from the 1960s. The population now is near 30 million, that time 60s, 70s Ghana was just about 10 million and that is a lot of difference.

“In terms of physical developments and other aspects, I believe our country has moved on quite a lot,” the former President who spends most of his time travelling said on Monday.

Mr. Kufuor added that he has managed to spend his life out of active politics by reading and listening to good stories and music.

So…… Adding 20 million people is an achievement!!!! Wow, 90% of those families cannot feed themselves / clothe their kids / get them to school, but it’s an achievement!!!! TIA!!!! And we wonder why the world laughs at us.

Here’s an achievement…. Population increase of 3-5 million, free QUALITY (that even government ministers and the president use) healthcare / education. Low crime rate, families being able to afford clothing & food. Minimal unemployment. Quality infrastructure (roads / street lights / sewer systems, etc). THIS IS AN ACHIEVEMENT!!!!

20 million extra people is NOT an achievement!!!!

Wake up Africa, we are the richest continent, let’s get our arses into gear and work hard.

The demented one cant be taken seriously. I work in Ghana and I see development daily. But when I come to Zim all I see is further deterioration every time i come to visit family.

I don’t think Mugabe see’s the ugly side of Zimbabwe. Where ever he visits they spruce the road and the area out. Just like a man wearing a Jacket and a tie with what looks like a nice shirt but beneath the Jacket is just sleeves and a collar. He then runs his mouth and embarrasses everyone else. He on the other hand is unembarrassable.
