Mash East pays for Mnangagwa snub

A STAR rally for Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Mucheke Stadium in Marondera last weekend was hurriedly reduced to a district meeting after locals snubbed the gathering.

Now the ruling party is taking action against perceived Mujuru loyalists who are blamed for embarrassing her successor as President Robert Mugabe’s first deputy.

Mnangagwa would have been keen to see whether the new dispensation in Zanu PF is taking hold in one of the key bastions of Mujuru’s support. He was disappointed.

Former education minister Aeneas Chigwedere took over as acting provincial chairman last year after Ray Kaukonde was deposed for allegedly funding former vice president Joice Mujuru’s claimed coup plot.

But on Tuesday, the interim provincial executive he led passed a no confidence vote against Chigwedere.

A spokesman of the group said Chigwedere would be replaced by his former deputy, Provincial Affairs Minister Joel Biggie Matiza.

“The vote of no confidence was passed because Cde Chigwedere was making unilateral decisions without consulting other members of the interim executive and also failed to convene a single executive committee meeting in the past two months,” said the spokesman, one Farai Maimba.

“He also failed to introduce comrades that were readmitted into the party namely Cde Jonathan Samkange from Mudzi and Cde Tendai Garwe from Murehwa causing confusion, chaos and factionalism in those areas.

“He also failed to organise last weekend’s rally attended by Vice President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa resulting in a low turnout that turned the event into a district meeting instead of a star rally.”

The meeting also recommended either suspension or expulsion from the party of several other top officials linked to Mujuru.

“There are others that we recommended for either expulsion or suspension given the roles they play in the promotion of factionalism in the province and plotting to topple the legitimately elected President, Cde Mugabe,” said Maimba.

Those facing possible dismissal from the party include deputy agriculture minister Paddy Zhanda, former cabinet minister Olivia Muchena and former provincial chairman Kaukonde.

Legislators also in trouble include Washington Musvaire (Maramba Pfungwe), Seke’s Phenias Chihota (Seke), Chikomba’s Cde Felix Mhona (Chikomba) and Goromonzi West’s Beater Nyamupinga.

Mucheke Stadium should be in Masvingo not Mash West unless if they built another with the same name recently or it’s a mix up of events since the same Vice Deputy President faced the same low turnout in Masvingo’s Mucheke Stadium.

Point of correction to the author. Marondera has only one stadium and its called Rudhaka not Mucheke. Proof read your articles and verify your facts before you publish.
