MDC coalition suffers stillbirth

via MDC coalition suffers stillbirth | The Herald 5 January 2015 by Lovemore Mataire

THE much hyped union of the MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube and the Mrs Sekai Holland led Renewal Party has suffered a still-birth because of a leadership crisis.

Sources close to developments in both parties said unity seemed to have been stalled by leadership wrangles.

“The truth of the matter is that there is a serious crisis in terms of who is to lead the party. On one side there is (Mr Tendai) Biti and (Mr Elton) Mangoma while on the other side people are not agreed on Professor Ncube whom they see as a liability given his tribal tendencies,” said a source who requested anonymity.

Besides the leadership wrangles, the two parties were also not agreed on the ideological foundation of the party as others argued the party should not pursue the same liberal policies that led to the dismal failure of the MDC-T in the 2013 harmonised elections.

“The crisis that confronts so-called opposition in Zimbabwe is that they are fake alternatives which are not rooted in any ideological framework.

“As such the parties neither acknowledge nor celebrate the liberation ethos and as such are viewed as Western appendages fixated on the removal of an individual from power,” said the source.

Contacted for comment, spokesperson for the MDC Renewal Team Mr Jacob Mafume attributed the delay in the merger to the slow pace of the roadmap which the two parties are expected to roll out and implement before a joint congress set for July this year.

“We have a roadmap in place that we are supposed to implement after the signing ceremony of the two parties. First, the two parties need to audit their structures and submit results of the audits to a council of elders who will then verify the audits at both district and provincial levels.

“The two parties will then hold their respective congresses before a joint congress to be held in July or August,” said Mr Mafume.

Spokesperson for the MDC Mr Nhlanhla Dube said there was nothing amiss in the delay in the amalgamation of the two parties as there were still a lot of things to be sorted out before they could become a single entity.

All the hype and fuss is over now.It intresting to hear ” auditing structures” .You only audit what is there not a non existing structure .At least someone had the guts to say that NCUBE HAS A SERIOUS TRIBAL PROBLEM.Since the inception of MDC,he was never recognising non Ndebele workers. If he talked with them, it was a meeky talk, not heart to heart. To the so called unity of whatever, you will realise that Ncube is worse than Mugabe.

What you see is what you get! Matabeles can’t be leaders in Zimbababwe, period! It’s a Shona prerogative to lead!

You might have a point there, my friend.
It is sad that politics should be on such crazy lines as tribal ones.
I remember a time when J Nkomo was king in Zim.
I forget what tribe he was, though!

A few days ago you commentators were rubbishing the Herald about the Chamisa story and today same people believe Herald and say Welshman is tribalist and someone has even guts to say Nkomo was king. Cheap Zanu tribal politics of Shona supremacy is what has brought this country to ruins. One tribe thinking they are super human until their own Mugabe sent his killing machine to ask if ‘you want long sleeve or short sleeve’.
Zanu puff is scared of a coalition of parties for that spells doom and long prison sentences for these thugs. So their long standing and successful strategy since formation in the 1960’s is to divide people along tribal lines and therefore rule till donkeys have horns. Stop being so stupid and naive and open your eyes.

“…someone has even guts to say Nkomo was king. Cheap Zanu tribal politics of Shona supremacy …….”

There once was The NDP, PCC and ZAPU.
And, J Nkomo aka “Chibwechitedza” was the undisputed leader.
Thats the time I am talking about my friend.

We all know the HERALD is so pathetic in its attempts to be anything but a ZANU mouthpiece, its laughable.
Maybe you should direct your vitriol at it and its master.

The MDC breakaways are all zpoof projects. They are used as appropriate. Fake congress is over and they are not needed for now. They will be needed towards another round of fake elections.

‘We all know the HERALD is so pathetic in its attempts to be anything but a ZANU mouthpiece, its laughable.
Maybe you should direct your vitriol at it and its master.’…my comment was on the irresponsible manner commentators make utterances, just a few days it was Chanisa and the Herald story was rubbished and now it’s the MDC formations and comments are tribal to the extent of bringing in Nkomo who is nowhere in Herald story. This is the tribalistic mindset which will see Zimbabwe never moving forward. Would it be appropriate to say we have king Tsvangirayi since 1999?
Dividing people on tribal lines is nothing but a Zanu project, so people get busy majoring in minors while Zanu thugs continue filling their bank accounts without accountability. This is what everyone who is patriotic and not tribalistic needs wake from and seek to be part to a united, diverse Zimbabwe which is not guided by ethnicity but a common nationality.

I have been reading comments on a lot of different Zimbabwe forums and the trend on most of the forums is that you get a few making suggestive remarks which would other wise bring about racist or tribalistic emotions. Some are trying to make a point and some actually believe what they say. Either way it brings about a debate and exposes some of the peoples state of mind. What it is supposed to do is to enlighten people and alleviate peoples fears. The Herald newspaper is run by people who have a party agenda. What ever reports they write concerning any opposition Politician should always be taken with a pinch of salt. What this particular one is doing is quite clear and is meant to weaken any sort of opposition. For example if Morgan or Welshman or Simba donated $1000000 dollars to the flood victims the Herald would most likely not report it. If one of the independent papers reported it then the Herald would spin it as something else EG stolen money to buy votes or something to make it negative. This is the reason that I personally don’t take the Herald seriously.Their primary objective is to promote Zanu pf and everything their do or write is filtered and censored by Zanu.

Doc, I follow your thread and I think most of us always welcome your calming influence on this forum.

Some facts have to be faced head on though, if we are to move forwards as a people unshackled by would-be leaders with dodgy credentials.
If one were to sit down with any ex-UZ students, one would soon have a very clear picture of what tino is on about in his comments

A fight against ZANU demands an inclusive approach, sadly lacking in those that would lead the nascent coalition.

You make my point exactly. For any meaningful debate it is important to put I views on the table. I don’t even see the differences in the opinions that I have seen thus far. I seen different opinions about the solutions though. That differentiates us from institutions like for example Zanu. If tomorrow Robert Mugabe gets up and says there were mistakes about Mujuru all those Zanu people will start to sing the same tune. Some will even say she did shoot down a plane after all. That is why it was healthy to have Murimi Wanhasi, Nesbit, Public protector and co on this forum. They actually worked against their masters by making us see how tunnel visioned they were. There is nothing wrong with your guys arguments. Keep it up.Sam Harris once said:Tolerance, openness to argument, openness to self-doubt, willingness to see other people’s points of view – these are very liberal and enlightened values that people are right to hold, but we can’t allow them to delude us to the point where we can’t recognize people who are needlessly perpetrating human misery.
