TALKS to merge the Welshman Ncube-led MDC and the Tendai Biti-fronted MDC Renewal Team have been suspended, an opposition official has said.
In a statement yesterday, MDC spokesperson Joshua Mhambi said the MDC Renewal Team had informed the Ncube-led part of the suspension of their participation in the reunification processes and roadmap signed between the two parties on November 26 last year. Mhambi said the Renewal Team opted instead to go to their own congress to resolve their leadership questions.
“The MDC accepts and fully respects their decision and wishes them well in their programmes. The MDC will remain focused on its priority programmes on party building and mobilisation,” he said.
“The leadership of the MDC remains fully committed to the reunification of the two MDC formations and to the building of a broader coalition of democrats to collectively address the challenges which confront our country.”
MDC Renewal Team spokesperson Jacob Mafume could not be reached for comment yesterday.
