MDC-T Byo youth secretary denied bail

BULAWAYO MDC-T youth secretary, Kunashe Muchemwa, has been denied bail and remanded to September 21 for trial in a matter where he is alleged to have participated in the violent skirmishes that rocked Harare two weeks ago, culminating in the burning of two vehicles belonging to the police and the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.

Muchemwa (35) was denied bail yesterday when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Bianca Makwande.

The MDC-T activist was arrested in Bulawayo after he was identified through a photograph captured during the skirmishes.

Makwande said the defence lawyer, Jeremiah Bhamu, had failed to explain reasons for Muchemwa’s visit to Harare at the time of the protests.

Allegations are that Muchemwa, who stays in Bulawayo, travelled to Harare and conspired with other suspects, who are on remand, to cause public violence and they set ablaze the two vehicles.

Tajamuka/Sesijikile spokerson Promise Mkwananzi and several other suspects linked to the offence, have also been denied bail on the same charge.

Peter Kachirika appeared for the State.
