VICE-PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is today expected to meet President Robert Mugabe to discuss the welfare of MPs some of whom have been stranded in Harare after Parliament failed to provide them with fuel to return to their constituencies.

Mnangagwa said he sought Mugabe’s intervention after Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda wrote to him, highlighting the plight of legislators.
“I can confirm that today (yesterday) I received a letter from Mudenda about the matter, saying we should take up the issue to the President,” Mnangagwa said.
“I then phoned the President and tomorrow (today) we will discuss the issue. Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa is also seized with the matter, but I cannot promise you when it will be resolved because of lack of resources.”
MPs were also owed sitting allowances.
Masvingo Senator Misheck Marava asked Mnangagwa on when Zimbabwe would abolish the death penalty, but the VP said Cabinet was divided over the issue.
“I am anti the death penalty including some of my colleagues in government, but there are others who still want it and it is a question of individual positions.
I know some day we will abolish it,” Mnangagwa said.
