Mnangagwa on Wednesday told the ongoing Universal Periodic Review meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, that Zimbabwe’s human rights record had significantly improved.

But MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said Mnangagwa should own up to the truth about the deteriorating human rights situation in the country.

“He knows that the people’s fundamental human rights and liberties are routinely suppressed and crushed by the paranoid and insecure Zanu PF regime,” Gutu said yesterday.

“We think that as a Justice minister, he was presented with the report that was compiled by Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission on how Zanu PF politicises food aid.”

Zimbabwe People First spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire said the situation had not changed since the 1980s when over 20 000 civilians were killed by a military crack team.

“Opposition political party activists, at the turn of the millennium, who chose to oppose Mugabe’s growing tyranny, were systematically tortured, raped or killed for simply expressing themselves against the regime,” Mawarire said.

Zimbabwe Human Rights director Okay Machisa said everyone was aware of police brutality and lack of constitutionalism in the country.

Honestly how can the UNHRC accept a presentation from a self- proclaimed murderer Munangagwa, who once professed that ‘HE WAS TRAINED TO KILL” and from his day one in Government he has upheld that qualification high for all and sundry to acknowledge. The Gukurahundi genocide and recent”fake accidents/disappearances of activists/opponents are all endorsements of his dreaded elements on his CV.
