Moyo at it again, lectures Mnangagwa

ZANU PF politburo member Jonathan Moyo has again hit out at party rival and Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom he accuses of trying to stampede President Robert Mugabe out his job.

Moyo, who is also Higher Education Minister, on Saturday took to Twitter, where he now regularly cricises party foes, saying the vice president should be thankful to the 91 year-old leader for picking him as his deputy.

Moyo did not name Mnangagwa. But the Zanu PF politburo member has form over the subject, having previously indicated, in a number of interviews, that the vice president was just an assistant to Mugabe and not the veteran leader’s chosen successor.

In his latest comments, Moyo counselled Mnangagwa not to start dreaming of becoming President.

“It’s wrong and unacceptable for anyone appointed by President Mugabe to be preoccupied with using the President’s appointment to succeed him!” he tweeted, without mentioning any name.

Moyo challenged the vice president to prove his worth by ascending to the highest job in the land through his own efforts and charisma.

“But ambitionists with successionist ambitions must use their own political currency not the President’s appointment!” he said.

“That is what stands to reason: do what you were appointed for; which is to help the President to serve the people!”

Mnangagwa was appointed Zanu PF and subsequently national co-Vice President during a controversial December congress which saw the shock ousting of then VP Joice Mujuru and her party allies for allegedly plotting to topple President Mugabe.

This followed the striking off, from the party constitution, clauses which direct the election of party VPs at congress.

This, critics say, makes it easier for President Mugabe to fire his lieutenants.

Moyo felt this fact could very easily have eluded Mnangagwa.

“Don’t corrupt this: if you are appointed to office you have a duty to discharge it as per your appointing authority!” he said.

“There’s everything wrong with using an appointment to seek to succeed your appointing authority. It’s that simple!

“Real power indeed vests with the electorate. Thus successionists must seek election & not appointment to succession!”

Moyo, once an ally to Mnangagwa, has fallen out with the former Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe legislator whom he partnered to fight Mujuru.

The Tsholotsho North MP is now linked to the so-called G40, a group of adventurous young Turks reportedly preferring a different choice to Presidency.

He denies this, further implying he was being targeted by Mnangagwa for trying to torpedo the latter’s rise to Presidency.

“No irony there,” Moyo says, “When successionists become desperate, anything or anyone that does not support them is a faction!

“Like Generation X, G40 is a demographic classification. Only successionists, fools & idiots see it as a faction!  How does anyone join a demographic group besides being in its age bracket?”

As Moyo tweeted, Zanu PF MP for Gokwe Nembudziya and Mnangagwa ally, Justice Mayor Wadyajena responded disparagingly: “Your obsession and preoccupation with succession issue betrays your shenanigans. Your mouth running, but where are you going? @ProfJNMoyo.”

Wadyajena infuriated Moyo over a week ago when he branded the law Professor as childish for his tweets, with Moyo hitting back saying he was in fact at ease with carrying that label than being called “murderous”.

The comment was intended at Mnangagwa whose name has been mentioned in the mass killing of fellow Zimbabweans during two of the country’s most bloody episodes since independence.

Wadyajena, who is thought to be used by Mnangagwa to spite rivals, did not take that lying down though.

He followed with a tweet: “Rather be called murderous than being HOMOS worse than imbwa and pigs @ProfJNMoyo.”

Moyo and Zanu PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere, have been called gays by former party chair for Mashonaland West, Temba Mliswa.

But in apparent reference to Wadyajena, Moyo tweeted on Saturday: “Some desperate and uncreative fellow bent on giving cover to their real successionist faction of electoral cowards!”
