Mutasa denies canvassing for post

ZANU PF secretary for administration, Didymus Mutasa, has denied actively canvassing for the position of chairman at the party’s December congress.

Mutasa denied any wrongdoing saying he was nominated for the position by the Zanu PF Manicaland provincial executive which is chaired by Ambassador John Mvundura.

Mutasa’s denial of canvassing came a week after he was subjected to a barrage of attacks by state media for allegedly breaching the Zanu PF constitution which prohibits canvassing before elections.

“The matter was discussed by a provincial committee and it was not my choice. Please call Ambassador Mvundura he will give you more details on the matter,” he said.

The Provincial Coordinating Committee chaired by Mvundura is said to have nominated Mutasa to take over the party chairmanship from Simon Khaya Moyo whom they said should ascend to the position of vice-president alongside Joice Mujuru.

Mutasa is said to be rooting for Mujuru in the factional fights over President Robert Mugabe’s succession that are tearing Zanu PF apart. The Mujuru faction is locked in a bitter war against another faction led by Justice Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mutasa was last week at the receiving end of First Lady Grace Mugabe’s attack after she accused senior party officials of imposing themselves to positions before the congress.

She said it was a shame that some senior officials were violating the party’s constitution which they are supposed to protect.

On Monday, Mutasa was at pains to deny any wrongdoing. He said he was approached by the provincial committee but told them that he had to first consult Mugabe on the matter.

“I will not just rush to grab the post but I will first have to talk to President Mugabe. If he says yes then I can take it up. If he says no for any other reason, I will have to leave it,” said Mutasa.

I do not see anything wrong with Mutasa wanting to be the National chairperson of ZANU PF.Let those who want the position compete and go for elections. ZANU PF is proving that it is not a democratic party at all.It seems all along the people of Zimbabwe have been forcing the party to go for elections. The party’s system is based on appointments/nominations without elections.Check how Robert Mugabe became the First secretary of the party. How are the second secretaries chosen? The ZANU PF system has created a dangerous situation for Zimbabwe and has left the country’s fate in the hands of one man, the modern day Mutapa , Robert Mugabe, who has succeeded in reviving the Mutapa dynasty. The frail leader has left the task to the Queen Dr Grace.I have reason to believe that for a long time Grace has been running the show . This explains the policy lapses this government has experienced over the years.Listen at the venom the queen is spewing at her so called rallies.Everyone is getting a tongue lashing. We are in real trouble. We must pray for this country.

What constitution is there to protect in ZANU (PF}? One day we are told that all positions will be contested and the following day we are told that the Dear Leader will appoint office bearers. One leader says party elections will be by secret ballot and this is immediately refuted by another leader; all these leaders are members of the all powerful Politburo. Do you have a constitution to follow? If there is one why not just follow it? If a party cannot follow its own constitution how will we trust them as the ruling party to follow the country’s constitution?

and suddenly we hear that Mutasa is being denounced by Jonathan Moyo’s supportes going around with Grace openly shouting pasi na Gamatox. The looters party can have this luxury to maul each other openly. Thanks to the opposition are even more confused. Time for a new brand of politicians is long over due in our country.
