Political parties and churches have snubbed opposition MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s call for an all stakeholders’ conference saying he has no political legitimacy to call for such a meeting.

The parties dismissed the MDC-T leader’s call as the ranting of a political player yearning for relevance in an environment where his “sale by date has expired”. zanu-pf spokesperson Ambassador Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said the ruling party was not going to waste time attending such a meeting called by someone suffering from delusions of grandeur to think that he has a notable role to play. He said Mr Tsvangirai was sinking into political oblivion.

“We don’t understand what he is talking about. We as zanu-pf got a mandate from the people in the previous elections and we are now focusing on Zim-Asset to ensure that the lives of Zimbabweans are improved. One would want to know where Tsvangirai is getting the mandate from to organise such a conference,” said Ambassador Moyo.

Spokesperson for the MDC Renewal Team Mr Jacob Mafume said MDC-T leader was living in dreamland.

He said the only conference that his party was aware of was the one called by Retired Anglican Bishop Sebastian Bakare. “They have called no one to a stakeholders’ conference. How does one political party call for a stakeholders’ conference? It’s just not workable,” said Mr Mafume.

Retired Anglican Bishop Sebastian Bakare recently claimed the MDC-T leader hijacked his idea which he and his group initiated early this year.

Rtd Bishop Bakare’s statements are in contrast to his utterances in 2013 when he equated Tsvangirai to the biblical Nehemiah. However, in an interview MDC-T spokesperson Mr Obert Gutu insisted that the conference would go ahead and that his party was in the process of engaging all political parties, church and civic groups.

“I can assure you that the church organisation you are referring to is being engaged at the highest level right now. And zanu-pf will also be engaged. The proposed conference will be a forum for national discourse for all and sundry,” said Mr Gutu.
