Price warns of exodus

Former Zimbabwe national team spinner Raymond Price has warned that the sport of cricket in Zimbabwe will continue losing more talented players as long as there was the belief that the administrators are more important than the players.

Price says players are the least regarded in Zimbabwean cricket adding that the sport concentrated more on administrative issues that the real stakeholders of the game.

“For the money to be there it is the players. But it is the same players who are going for months without being paid yet the administrators pay themselves well and in time,” said Price.

Price said players were going without being paid for months and this was creating job dissatisfaction saying although they wanted to play for the country they were losing patience.

“Without players they are going to be in big trouble, and they don’t seem to understand that. Over the years, the belief has been that the administrators are the more important,” said Price.

Price says cricket can get good administrators but good cricketers like Brendon Taylor do not come along so often adding that Zimbabwean cricket will suffer if this attitude does not change.

Taylor has been lost to Zimbabwe after signing a three year deal with English side Nottinghamshire which will not make him available for Zimbabwe over that period.

This is the same way that Zimbabwe also lost one of their star players Kyle Jarvis who went to England and never returned to play for Zimbabwe again.

A number of other Zimbabwean sportsmen including top rugby players Richard Tsimba, and Tendai Mtawarira, also left the country only to decide to represent other countries.

As long as the Political situation remains as it is all the sporting disciplines will suffer. These thieves have dug in and will milk every cent they can from anywhere they can.
