CONTROVERSIAL MDC-T politician Job Sikhala has scoffed at state media reports that he was audio-taped discussing a coalition deal with emissaries of embattled Vice-President Joice Mujuru.

The Sunday Mail newspaper yesterday published what it claimed was a transcript of Sikhala discussing how the Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDC-T would cobble up a coalition with Mujuru to challenge President Robert Mugabe at the next election.

The Sunday Mail wrote: “On November 14, MDC-T member Mr Job Sikhala met emissaries from Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s faction at an undisclosed location in Harare to discuss the formation of a coalition to topple President Mugabe.

“They also discussed plans to launch a Constitutional Court challenge against First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe with the ultimate objective of humiliating the President.”

Sikhala, in the tape, is said to have claimed that Mugabe had unconstitutionally ceded some of his powers to his wife Grace.

Grace has over the past two months held meetings and rallies where she attacked Mujuru for allegedly plotting to oust her 90-year-old husband. She also accused the vice-president of corruption.

Sikhala on Sunday took to social media and laughed off the claims which he said were “concocted”.

“When your country is under the stewardship of the demented they always fear their shadows,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

“Today I laughed my lungs out kuti mai vangu chavakafira hapana chavakaona. Kwanzi we have a recorded tape when Sikhala was talking to Vice President Joyce Mujuru’s emissaries trying to find ways how we should work together to deal with the demented presidency before us.

“I read their concocted conversation and discovered the desperation of the faction of the wicked. Ngavangoshungurudza our Vice President without creating non-existent emissaries and illusionary meetings,” he said.

Mujuru is under severe pressure in Zanu PF from hawks in a rival faction battling for the control of the ruling party ahead of a key congress in December.

Grace has recently called on Mujuru to resign. But the vice-president last week released a scathing statement in which she refused to step down.

She has however threatened to sue her detractors, including Grace, for making what she said were scurrilous allegations against her.

And I do not see anything wrong with that. That is what elections are meant to do.
