ICT Minister, Supa Mandiwanzira, has said Zanu PF has no competition and come 2018 it will win fairly, adding “disagreements” within the ruling party were “healthy” for its development.
Mandiwanzira defended the party, saying it had proven over the years that it was united and consistent.
He made the remarks while addressing the Bulawayo Press Club on Thursday, where he waxed lyrical that no opposition party was anywhere near causing them sleepless nights.
“What I know for a fact is that Zanu PF is united, will win the next elections freely and fairly; there are no internal fights they are just disagreements and its healthy to have disagreements,” he said.
He said the vicious knuckle bare fights in the ruling party were a creation of the media.
“There is a lot of creativity in the media which gives an impression that is not there,” said journalist turned politician.
The media has been awash with stories of deep divisions in the former liberation movement, pitying two factions, both angling to succeed long time ruler, President Mugabe.
Mugabe’s long time right hand man, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is reportedly leading one of the factions, popularly known as Team Lacoste, a term borrowed from a revered French fashion label, which uses a crocodile for logo.
Mnangagwa is known in political circles as Ngwena, a Shona name for crocodile.
The other group known as Generation 40 is reportedly led by First Lady Grace Mugabe, ably supported by the likes of Professor Jonathan Moyo and Saviour Kasukuwere.
“The perception that Zanu PF is going to win unfairly is a media creation and perception, the reality is that we have no competition. Frankly speaking, there is no competition, tell me one political party that can stand up given the consistency of Zanu PF in the last five years,” quipped Mandiwanzira.
He said Zanu PF has been winning in elections because it does not stop campaigning even in years where there are no elections.
