Tongaat Hulett summoned to Parly

PARLIAMENT has summoned Triangle-based sugar milling company, Tongaat Hulett, to appear before the Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Committee to clarify its indigenisation policy and answer questions regarding the company’s involvement in the alleged plot to topple President Robert Mugabe.

According to the invitation letter seen by NewsDay yesterday, the company’s top management is set to appear before the committee tomorrow.

“The purpose of the meeting is for you to give oral evidence on the following: Tongaat Hulett’s level of compliance with the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act, challenges (if any) being encountered in fulfilling the requirements of the indigenisation legislation and your general opinion on the Act and any other relevant information,” the letter reads in part.
The committee is chaired by Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu PF).

The company management is currently under fire from Zanu PF, accusing its top management of working with ousted Vice-President Joice Mujuru and her allies in an alleged plot to topple Mugabe.
Ruling party hardliners have accused fired Masvingo Provincial Affairs minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti of collecting money from Tongaat Hulett and other companies to sponsor the alleged Mugabe ouster plot.

Bhasikiti has denied the charge and distanced himself from any plot.

Recently, Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa threatened unspecified action against the company if it allegedly continued working against the party and its leadership.

They might call it Parliament, but all of us Zimbo’s, and the rest of the world knows that this is no more than a ZANU Pf Kangaroo Court.
No sympathy for these Tongaat guys – the writing has been on the wall for long enough for them to know that there are consequences for supping with the devil. They are only just beginning to realize what a BIG mistake they have made. Hopefully ZANU Pf will oblige and make a ‘good example’ of them so that any future prospective investors can watch out – the same ZANU which is crying for FDI.

if there is a crime, let the legal system deal with it.
