MDC-T spokesman Obert Gutu told NewsDay Weekender yesterday that Tsvangirai was now fit to resume his duties as the main opposition leader in the country.

“President Tsvangirai is jetting into Harare today . . . fit and strong, ready to lead from the front, as usual,” Gutu said.

Tsvangirai was taken ill a few weeks ago and is reported to have undergone surgery. He missed an MDC-T demonstration against President Robert Mugabe in Bulawayo while recovering from at a private hospital in Johannesburg.

A picture of Tsvangirai standing on a balcony, which was reportedly taken by members of his close circle, has been doing the rounds on social media.

MDC-T activist Charlton Hwende was the first to post the picture, saying it showed Tsvangirai in good spirits and ready to resume his fight against Zanu PF rule.

Meanwhile, the MDC-T’s Manicaland anti-Mugabe demonstration, which had been slated for next Saturday in Mutare, has been shifted to June 23 to allow Tsvangirai to participate.

The party’s provincial spokesperson and Mutasa Central legislator Trevor Saruwaka confirmed the new development to NewsDay Weekender yesterday.

He said it was an “honour” for the province that Tsvangirai wanted to take part in the demonstration.

Saruwaka said the demonstration, a follow-up to those held in Harare and Bulawayo recently, would also focus on the
$15 billion allegedly looted from the Chiadzwa diamond fields by mining companies who operated in the area and the deepening economic crises facing the country, among other issues.

The legislator added that the province was expecting over 10 000 people to join the demonstration.

“We are expecting a modest number of 10 000 demonstrators, but we are aware that we are going to surpass that number. We are continuing with our preparations and all structures of our party are mobilising people to come and demonstrate,’’ he said.
