United States-based Maxwell Zeb Shumba will on July 29 officially present his party to Zimbabweans, as the build-up towards the general elections in 2018 begins in earnest.

Shumba, in a poster seen by NewsDay did not, however, say who the speakers at the launch will be.

ZimFirst is presenting itself as a “breath of fresh air, fresh legs and fresh ideas”.

Shumba has had run-ins with former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) over accusations the former Zanu PF number two stole his party’s name and ideas.

Shumba’s party was formed in April this year, with the former MDC-T chief strategist saying the new political outfit came after it became apparent that the expectations from the concept of the national convergence were grossly misaligned among the key participants.

A former MDC-T USA chairperson, Shumba said the ZimFirst idea had been welcomed by people from all walks of life.
He said other political parties in the country had failed to inspire a better future and, hence, they were encouraged to transform into a full-fledged political party.

If one can not even think of a proper name for his party, but struggle to steal ideas from others how can he ever dream of a political party. Mrs J Mujuru was the first to think of the term People first. This idea emanenting from the founding principle of people first , iwe neni tine basa. Then Shumba felt this crazy idea and call his ambition ZimFirst. But because ZANU PF is crazy like Shumba, and wanting to confuse the electorate in 2018, they will register Shumba’s out fit and call it ZimFirst-S . Shumba you are a pathetic SELLOUT

How big is this country called Zimbabwe that people think they can just form a party any time and anywhere and hope to get sufficient numbers of support to make it worthwhile?? How does a man based in the USA even start to think of starting a party in Zimbabwe?

Oh Dear !! When are the people of Zimbabwe going to learn and unite behind one party ? The more that parties try to go it alone, the more the “divide and rule” principle will apply. ZANU PF are rubbing their hands in delight.

I don’t know these guys personally but would like to question their agenda in such a crisis. The more divided we’re the easier for Zanepf to win the next election without even rigging. Simple math and common sense tells u that this new party, even with a few dissent members. will reduce number of votes for the opposition to win.

These are just disgruntled folk who know they’ve no chance of winning the election by themselves. There’s no time tb divided esp when faced with a huge crisis in our country. Is it the money, the power or the greed?
