“WE are saying enough is enough with this Jonathan nonsense. He is the same Jonathan who was a famous critic of Zanu PF while he was in South Africa.”

This was the declaration Tuesday by The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) as pressure appears to mount around the higher education minister.

Zanu PF national spokesman, Simon Khaya Moyo also suggested that the ruling party would discuss the abuse of social media by senior party officials.

Moyo, after his removal from the information ministry has been an active user of Twitter were he regularly attacks what he describes as successionists, a reference to a party faction said to be aligned to vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

LAst week, the higher education minister also used Twitter to hit back after he was savaged by presidential spokesman George Charamba for allegedly leading the so-called G40 party group opposed to Mnangagwa.

On Tuesday war veterans backed Charamba and repeated their vow to block Moyo from politburo meetings at the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare.

“(Prof) Moyo is creating some dubious animals to destabilise the party,” ZNLWVA secretary general Victor Matemadanda told the state-run Herald newspaper.

“He (Prof Moyo) is the one who started the creature called G40. Recently, he attacked (the) Presidential spokesperson calling him an “idiot”.

“Mr Charamba was clear when he gave an interview to journalists that he was speaking in his capacity as the Presidential spokesperson, meaning that he was speaking the President’s mind but Jonathan (Moyo) has the audacity of calling him an ‘idiot’.

Matemadanda, who was flanked by ZNLWVA chair and cabinet minister Chris Mutsvangwa added: “We are going to block him (Moyo) from attending those meetings.

“We cannot block him from Cabinet because even members from the opposition can attend such meetings.

“We are going to block him from attending those meetings. We cannot block him from Cabinet because even members from the opposition can attend such meetings.”

The war veterans also accused Moyo of defying an order by President Mugabe against using social media to attack fellow party members.

“What we know traditionally is that if the Politburo or Central Committee make a decision, no party member should defy that,” said Matemadanda.

“Comrades are saying enough is enough!”

The war veterans denied claims Mnangagwa led a faction in the party, blaming Moyo for the allegations.

“To begin with, he is the one who started the term ‘Team Lacoste’, which has now led to the suspension of some party members,” said Matemadanda.

“As far as we know, Lacoste is a French fashion label and of course it uses the design of a crocodile, but Vice President Mnangagwa has never said he leads a faction called Team Lacoste.

Meanwhile party spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo appeared to ramp up the pressure on Moyo by saying the politburo would, at its next meeting, discuss his social media activities.

“The President says we must avoid social media,” he said.

“We are a party with structures and where we have situations of transgressions they should be brought to the party through relevant structures.

““If somebody raises those issues (at the Politburo meeting), I think the party will come up with a position.”
