ZANU PF will wonder at the prudence of allowing some of its punished “coup plotters” to retain their seats in Parliament after one of the ” rebels” attacked President Robert Mugabe’s government Tuesday.

Expelled former Masvingo provincial affairs minister and Zanu PF legislator for Mwenezi East Kudakwashe Bhasikiti broke ranks Tuesday, accusing the government of oppression.

Bhasikiti, who has not been recalled from Parliament, was contributing to the presidential debate when he hit out at Mugabe’s administration.

“When we got our independence we celebrated thinking we were going to be free, but now we are leaving in fear and oppression.

“This must stop because our people do not need to live in fear, this must stop. Only the president talk of People First and fighting corruption, we must stop it,” he said.

Vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa looked stunned as Bhasikiti ploughed on, urged by opposition MPs amid confused silence from his counterparts in the ruling party.

“We used to talk of white capitalism but now we have black capitalist leaders who are very corrupt,” he said.

“We must condemn this culture including our young people like Gomwe (Godwin former Zanu PF Harare youth leader) who was arrested for fleecing the people under the guise of availing stands for them.

“We thank the police for doing their work.”

Bhasikiti drew hauls of disapproval from Zanu PF’s Masvingo Central legislator Daniel Shumba but he would not be dissuaded as he turned on his counterpart.

“We have politicians protecting business people like Billy Rautenbach who want to take all the land in Masvingo.

“It is a dangerous culture and now they are here trying to stop me from talking about the Tokwe Mukosi issue,” Bhasikiti retorted.

The former junior minister was at, one time, accused of abusing donations meant for victims of the Tokwe Mukosi disaster in the Lowveld.

Bhasikiti was fired from the government and Zanu PF over charges he was part of a rebellion by former vice president Joice Mujuru who is accused of plotting a coup against Mugabe.

Mujuru and several other former senior party officials and cabinet ministers have also been axed from government and Zanu PF.

Only Didymus Mutasa and Temba Mliswa have been recalled from Parliament over the alleged rebellion with some of the reprimanded allies for the former vice president allowed to keep their legislative seats.

However, after his outburst, Bhasikiti might as well start preparing for a  by-election in Mwenezi East if he wants to remain an MP.
