A number of party members, particularly women, failed to get food after going hungry since morning, with food only served well after lunchtime despite party members being ferried to the venue at Zanu PF Gweru conference centre along Mvuma Road as early as 3am.

A female party member told Southern Eye that she had to go back home on an empty stomach after failing to get food.

“The bus ferried us at around 3am from Mberengwa and we arrived on Saturday morning for the meeting and breakfast was served and we had to wait for lunch after the meeting, unfortunately the food was inadequate and I failed to get anything,” the distraught woman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

“The logistics on food were not properly arranged and you can imagine I had to go back home in the evening without having eaten for the whole day because I had no cent on me.”

Another female member said she had to give up on getting food due to the chaos at the point where it was being served.

The food ran out before all attendants could be served.

Investigations by this paper revealed that some hungry delegates from Chirumanzu district got home well after midnight after their bus broke down near Thornhill Airbase on Saturday evening, worsening their situation.

Provincial party spokesperson, Cornelius Mpereri could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Meanwhile, acting provincial chairperson, Jorum Gumbo said suspended provincial chairperson, Kizito Chivamba would know his fate before the conference next month.

“This issue of Chivamba and two other provincial chairperson suspended this year would be concluded before the conference,” he said.

The phrase “Could not organise a booze up in a brewery” comes to mind.

Serves them right. During the war people contributed everything because there was a cause, now we just want to get, get and get some more for doing nothing but singing for ma”chefu”. Lazy, lazy, lazy, WAKE UP.
