via Zanu PF senator exposes self in Parly – NewZimbabwe 30 January 2015
A ZANU PF Senator Tapera Machingaifa on Thursday paraded his ignorance and lack of understanding why he is in Parliament after he asked Senate President, Edna Madzongwe to explain to him the meaning of ‘august house’.
The Senator from Mashonaland West province asked Madzongwe to explain to him the meaning of the word ‘august house’ which is usually used to refer to Parliament.
“Madam President a question that was posed to me and I had no answer to was why is this House called august house,” said Machingaifa.
Just as his perplexed colleagues were hanging their heads in utter embarrassment Machingaifa added: “I do not know which minister to pose that to”.
Although the only minister who was in the House by that time was Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi, Madzongwe said the Senator should go and research why Parliament is called the august house.
“I am not the Minister but as the presiding officer of this Chamber, who guides the operations of this Senate, I would like to advise the Hon. Senator that as you know, we have a research department at this institution; you should approach that department and they will research on your question personally,” she said before she attacked him.
“This is not the type of question that I expect a representative of the people to be asking. I urge the Hon. Senator to carry out his own research and find the answer to this question,” she said adding that “That is a question that should not be posed to anyone in this Senate by an Hon. Senator”.
