THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) is facing difficulties with its Automated System for Customs Data (Asycuda) and an alternative system has been put in place to help ease the problem.
The authority said in a statement yesterday that it has been upgrading its Asycuda world system since last week to improve the services that are offered online.
“The authority is currently in the process of rectifying these challenges for normal online transactions to continue.
“Alternative measures have been put in place at all ports of entry and exit to facilitate smooth movement of cargo and reduce inconveniences to our valued clients,” Zimra said.
Asycuda is a Web-based system where customs and trader transactions are handled via the Internet and or intranet system designed to help countries automate customs processes on the importation or exportation of goods and compile accurate trade statistics.
The system has evolved through technological developments from one version to another until in 2001 when the country started using version 3.0, better known as Asycuda++.
“Zimra, therefore, urges its clients to approach their respective station managers for any challenges they may encounter in the movement of their cargo during this transitional period,” Zimra said.
Asycuda++ is built in a modular environment and incorporates the Selectivity (Risk Management) Module and Customs Broker Module where clients can register declarations from the comfort of their offices, among other things.
Zimbabwe started using the Asycuda system for all commercial transactions during the 1991/1992 period.
