2013 Voters Roll – Mudede Says Machine Still Broken Down

via Zimbabwe: 2013 Voters Roll- Mudede Refuses, Says Machine Still Broken Down | ZimEye By Special Correspondent Published: November 11, 2013

Zimbabwe’s Registrar General, Tobaiwa Mudede is ‘unable’ to provide an electronic copy of the voters role used in the last July elections because as he says the machines are broken according ZEC Chairperson Rita Makarau.

In response to ZAPU leader Dumiso Dabengwa’s efforts to obtain as is required in law, the exact electronic copy that was used in the elections, Rita Makarau has told the ZAPU leader there would never be an electronic copy anytime soon.

According to the latest correspondence, Makarau said Mudede once again said that he is not able to produce an electronic voters roll from the just ended July elections.

Mr Mudede provided an explanation using the words ‘the machines are still down,’according to ZEC chairperson Justice Rita Makarau.

Makarau is on record stating to Dabengwa that:

“We regret to advise that the commission is unable to give you an electric copy of the National voters roll that was used for the elections held on 31 July

“You are aware that the voters roll used for the election was compiled and maintained by the office of the Registrar General of Voters who has indicated that his machines are still down even as I write to you.

“We simply cannot give you copies of the roll as the Registrar is unable to produce the same. We have never deviated from this position that whilst we have obligation to provide you with the roll, it is physically impossible to do so.”

You will never get a copy of the roll, just as you will never get a copy of the 2002 election report.
There will never be a time of accounting for these people. The corruption will go on, the extortion will go on, the hunger, polluted water the lack of electricity will continue.

What can you expect from a corrupt regime. What good do you expect from Mudede? Idede for sure. We paid a real prize to get Passports and those machines will NOT function only when such data is required.

The world is indeed coming to an end bafowethu.

In African culture, most of us grew up being told that elders dont lie, but what we are seeing today – over 60 year olds; 90 year old lying daily through their teeth what is the world coming to?

What lessons are the children, the younger generation learning here? We are in real big, big trouble!

Even if someone offered to repair it for free or offered a new one, they would refuse the offer.

These are the same people who want the west to lift sanctions on them and also want IMF money – what a joke!!

I think the use of the word ‘never’ means forget about getting the electronic voters roll now or in the future yet, it is a right for the public to have these copies. Registrar general’s office is a people’s office. Denying people these copies is tantamount to corruption. Need I remind Registrar general that if he wants to end corruption at his offices, he must demonstrate by releasing the electronic voters roll to those asking for it. Corruption must be confronted by us all.
