Transform Zimbabwe leader warned by police

THE opposition Transform Zimbabwe (TZ) party has claimed that its leader Jacob Ngarivhume was on Tuesday forced by police in Nyanga to sign a warned-and-cautioned statement admitting to the charge of addressing an illegal public meeting.

TZ spokesperson Sungai Mazando said Ngarivhume was charged with contravening Section 24(6) of the Public Order and Security Act (Posa) for addressing a church gathering at Holy Cross Church at Mangongondoza Township in Nyanga on June 18.

Ngarivhume was summoned last Friday, but reported at Nyanga Police Station on Tuesday where he was released after allegedly signing a warned-and-cautioned statement “under duress”.

Police accused him of turning a church gathering into a political meeting.

But Mazando yesterday insisted that the meeting was apolitical.

“He was charged with contravening section 24(6) of Posa citing failure to notify regulating authorities before conducting a public meeting,” Mazando said yesterday.

Mazando said Ngarivhume was detained for six hours, but was later advised by his lawyers to leave since he had not been arrested after the police officers at the charge office continuously said they were waiting for instructions from their superiors.

Before the alleged prayer meeting, Mazando claimed that Pauline Mutasa, the party’s Nyanga representative, spent a night in police custody before being released the following day without charge.

In recent months, Ngarivhume and TZ members have been arrested on several occasions for contravening Posa.

He was interrogated by police in Tsholotsho in April and detained in Chimanimani in June.

In July, he endured four days in police custody in Gweru and Harare.

On Wednesday, 13 TZ activists including Ngarivhume’s wife appeared at the Gweru Magistrates’ Court facing charges of contravening Section 37 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly participating in a gathering with the intention to promote public violence.

The trial was postponed to August 26 because the magistrate presiding over the matter was not available.

Mazando said the party would soldier on despite the arrests.

We pray for a man to lead our nation after God’s own heart; a man like King David. We ask the Lord Himself to raise up such a man. Truly I feel heartbroken for my nation and its people. God is going to judge the oppressor and the suppressor. Zimbabwe belongs to no man except the One who created it: God.Let us as the church come before Him with broken and contrite hearts in repentance and ask for His deliverance. The battle is the Lord’s. ZPf are obviously threatened by TZ.

I feel for Transform Zimbabwe ,that they come in this stadium where harassment is the tune of the day.But myself i am seeing a genuine reason with the TZ PARTY.I believe they have to keep working hard to crop up support in all corner of this country.I think a new party other than the existing one is the way to go.Come up TZ

The party is in a difficult position, the police are making every effort to make sure that meetings are not cleared and yet the POSA that they use says parties should only notify the police.
Members should continue using the current strategies to circumvent POSA restrictions.
Viva TZ viva. This is the new force thats giving the regime sleepless nights, over and above the nightmare of the ailing economy!

The more mugabe tries to tread this party down, the faster it will grow. The police and authorities need to be very very careful how they handle these Christians who are standing up for Biblical principals. Look at the power of the tiny nation of Israel…beware people of assumed power , this could consume you.

Jacob, tell the police to kiss your ass. Legal and illegal meetings indeed. Suppose every Joe in Zim purposely went to an locally organized for the purpose illegal meeting at the same time then hurriewd tothe nearest police station and demanded the police to arrest them immediately or suck it.

this is a new thing that God is doing in the world, and christians all over the world will learn from zimbabwe and beginning to takeover governance in their respective countries. for the bible says the saints of God shall take the kingdom and after this Christians revolution in the whole world then the end will come.He who has an ear let him hear and eyes let him see, this is a mystery from God in heaven
