When results of the youth elections were published, the news item was infested with Comrade. Comrade so and so, comrade this, comrade that. Who are Zanu (PF) really trying to fool with all this comrade malarkey?
One would think we had rewound our clocks back to the Soviet Union era. Are we supposed to believe that Zimbabwe is run on socialist principles, while the first lady amasses land and the president hoards piles of grain while his own people starve?
A wise person once said, ‘those who the gods would destroy, they first make mad.’
The $50,000 gratuities paid out to the war vets, Zimbabwe’s participation in the DRC war, the chaotic land invasions which began in 1999 and the overdrive printing of Zimdollars between 2000 and 2008 were key moments of madness in the leadership. But, possibly, the most illogical decision to ever come out of Zanu (PF) HQ is the nomination of Grace Mugabe to the position of Chairperson of the Zanu (PF) women’s league.
Whenever Grace takes to the podium to make a speech, it is almost certain that she will say something that will make most people cringe with embarrassment. In her most recent outburst, the first lady claims there are senior Zanu (PF) officials who are out to get her.
“Pane vanhu varikuda kundizvuzvurudza mutara when the President goes. I might have a small fist. But when it comes to fighting, I will put stones inside to enlarge it, or even put on gloves to make it bigger. Do not doubt my capabilities,” she said.
Not long before that, Grace verbally accused Deputy Minister of Justice, Fortune Chasi – who is also MP for Mazowe South – of spreading lies about her. Grace alleges that Chasi claims she wants to grab all the land in Mazowe.
