Still no sign of voters’ roll

via Still no sign of voters’ roll | The Zimbabwean by Nelson Sibanda 13.11.13

Failure by Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede’s office to release the electronic copy of the voters’ roll has more to do with unwillingness than inability, says the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Election Support Network, Solomon Zwana.

The RG’s office maintains that machines used for printing the roll broke down before the elections were held and have not been repaired yet. This has reinforced suspicions among the electorate that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and the RG’s offices had something to hide, given the controversy surrounding the outcome of the poll.

Zwana said failure by the RG’s office to release the roll ‘flies in the face of transparency’.

“The RG’s office is doing the nation a disservice as the electronic copy of the roll would help build people’s confidence in the country’s electoral processes,” Zwana said.

It was difficult for anyone to buy Mudede’s theory that machines broke down, he added.

In a recent response to inquiries by The Zimbabwean as to why the roll had still not been made available for public scrutiny, ZEC chairperson Rita Makarau passed the buck to Mudede’s office.

In an email response to questions, she shifted the blame to the RG saying “ZEC has not yet started exercising its functions of registering voters and compiling rolls”.

“We have received a few requests for the electronic copy of the roll after the elections and we have in turn forwarded these requests to the RG of voters who compiled the voters roll that was used during the elections,” Makarau said.

She said ZEC would compile new voters’ rolls for future elections. Makarau’s response came after several failed attempts by this newspaper to get her comments through either email or direct interview.

Her personal secretary claimed that she was out of the country, but her deputy, Joyce Kazembe, said Makarau was in the country and in her office as usual.

Questions forwarded to the RG’s office as suggested by Makarau did not bring any joy. Mudede’s personal assistant, one Chemutengo, claimed that the questions got to the RG’s offices when Mudede was out of the country. But on the day the questions were faxed to his office, this reporter had just seen Mudede walking down the corridor.

Those who questions ZEC & Mudede are accused of being MDC sympathisers. Yet this is beyond obvious that ZEC & RG are trying to hide something . Zimbabwe is what is it is now because some people believe Mugabe is blameless.

True bro. Any thing to do with justice is refered to as MDC. Some of these issues are neither MDC nor ZANU PF. Peoplle just want justice.

So the RG still cannot furnish a DIGITAL copy of the voters roll because his machine (some quaintly call it a printer) that is used for printing ANALOG copies of the DIGITAL file, is broken?

If his printer is broken then perhaps he cannot furnish a printed version – however, a printer is not required to share a digital copy. Perhaps Muddled Mudede does not realize this, just as George W. Bush did not know about the workings of the “Interwebs.” However, that is no excuse for holding up the voters roll. Mudede may as well have said that his dog ate the only copy! Would that be any more believable?

The country is being ruled by people who lost the elections. This has been the case over many elections, who knows, except for the 1980 one. ZVINOSHAMISA NGEZVEKUTI HAVANA NYADZI. VANONGONYEPA KUTI VAKARWA HONDO, VAKARWA HONDO – VANGANI VAVO VAKABATA GIDI KANA TAVAKUTAURA CHOKWADI?

Eve if they did fight that does not mean they must rule this country like a Mafia organisation. After all all people contributed in the liberation struggle. Fathers mothers chimbwidos and mujibhas. But today these other groups are no longer relevant according to ZANU pf

Mugabe has never won an election.Just before the 1980 election,Margaret Thatcher had this to say verbatim,”If people think the person who will win the election is the one who is going to rule, then they are mistaken. We(the British)are going to look for a “reasonable” person.Simply put she was just saying the election would go the way they wanted it to.To simplfy it further it means,”We are going to rig the election.” Mugabe just carried on from where the British left.Have you ever wondered why they later nighted him ? A job well done until the puppet got drunk with power and started dancing out of tune and the knighthood was nominal withdrawn.

i think i a have read an article which part of it was a snippet of the ZEC constitution with regards to the release of electronic copies of the voter’s roll to the political parties and the contestants. in this constitution snippet, ZEC said the that the electronic copy will only be released if its un-editable(cannot be tempered) and can be queried. this might seem to be a simple clause but this is the major reason and whoever put this clause knew what he was doing. To all those who are in IT like myself, help me to think if this is possible. i personally think this clause was put so no electronic copy will be issued

After the MDCT are exhausted, dejected, clueless, bankrupt, and very sober, the electronic roll will be made available. And to all surprise there will be no evidence. Why do you need the electronic roll when you have a 45 page dossier of rigging evidence. Logic will tell you that the accused will never give out evidence to be nailed by the same evidence regardless of the uselessness of the evidence. Do you think Mudede is a fool.

We know very well that this voter regester document will never be released. What we we want is to show them that they rigged the elections.

You are definitely right, they are looking at the evidence and using the allegation and correcting the anomalies and when they are done then the voters role will be given to the courts. By the way, can any one tell me who is guarding the voters role since we finished the elections till now????????????? Kikiikikikiki ma one.

Shebah, how many more cars are on the roads in Zimbabwe. That makes Zimbabwe rich, not so! Even if those tens of thousands of rusted, dilapidated, illegal vehicles have to drive over rutted, pot-holed and police = mugging roads. By the way, your stupid illegal president, will never allow an electronic Voters Rolls to be released. Anyway I am an IT expert and it’s simple to deliver a “read Only” copy!
