Disgruntled MDC MPs defect to renewal team

BULAWAYO – Two disgruntled mainstream MDC legislators have defected to the MDC renewal team citing vote rigging at the just-ended provincial elections.

Speaking during a press conference held at Samuel Sipepa Nkomo’s residence in Killarney suburb yesterday, Pumula MP Albert Mhlanga, who defected along with Gladys Mathe and ward 8 councillor Sheila Nkomo, said it had become virtually impossible to belong to the party.

“In fact, it is practically impossible for any sane individual who experienced the events of the provincial congress to ignore the criticisms that have been levied against MDC-T,”  Mhlanga said.

He had retained his position as an organising secretary through confirmation at the congress, which saw Gift Banda being elected provincial chairman.

The Pumula legislator, who also claimed to have been manhandled by party youths during the congress, said the mainstream MDC was a party which had lost its original ideals and values.

However, he claimed that 14 other Bulawayo councillors and Binga MP Prince Sibanda were on their way to the Sekai Holland-chaired formation.

The defectors were welcomed by provincial chairperson Kucaca Phulu and national chairman Sipepa Nkomo at the event that had other local party leaders.

Bhebhe, the mainstream MDC deputy national organising secretary, said they had seen it coming.

“Their behaviour and utterances in the press had shown us that they are moles in the party,” Bhebhe said.

“Anyway, as a party, we did not harass them; we did not push them and they left us on their own. As a result, we wish them well where ever they are going,” he said.

MDC T its not about MPs or concillors, when these people decides to defect, they are only proving how stupid and selfish they are as leaders. They should at least consult the electorate in their respective areas and agree about that change. They are in there because people put them there, now going without advising and getting the mandate is robbing them. However ZANU PF or the courts will not say anything about by elections in these areas, cause they know these stooggies are acting to the advantage of ZANU PF. The moment a colleague behaves in a way that please the emermy, no matter how prudent he thinks he is, that colleague is wrong. Why splitting and please ZANU PF. You are either with us or you are our enermy like ZANU PF.

Tolerance of diverse views within the party, internal democracy, progressive objectivity and the shunning a foolish culture of violence. These enhance the unity of purpose and the intensification of the struggle. Hero worshiping, resorting to politics of patronage doing like the heinous Zanupf will break the organization into smaller and smaller pieces while the Zanupf looters will get stronger and stronger. Next time Zanu pf is taking Bulawayo! A sad reality indeed unless we all do something above self aggrandizement.

at least I admire the MDC-T response above. namely wishing those who leave well wherever they go. that maturity and respect of each other choices than denouncing demonising. that is what we should do respect each other choices. this thing of demonising each other does not work. in fact the one u demonise normally wins. smith demonised Mugabe and today Mugabe rules. this guy MT who is demonised by all – watch this space. maybe he is so bad but there is something why he is such a topic -if my theory works u are just preparing for him to take over.
