FORMER ZANU PF Matabeleland South chairman, Rido Mpofu, faces destitution after the Sherriff of the High Court ordered the sale of his two residential properties to recover the money he owes to CABS.

A notice posted in the Chronicle last week by Hollands Auctioneers said the two properties in Bulawayo and Gwanda would go under the hammer last Friday.

It could not be established whether the two properties had attracted buyers yet.

“Duly instructed by the Sherriff of the High Court, we shall sell by auction the following immovable property,” reads the notice by Hollands.

“CABS vs Sunrise Trading, stand 729 Jacaranda and stand 9 Riverside Estate known as 5, Wynne Rd, Riverside.”

Mpofu currently resides at his Gwanda home which is set to be auctioned.

The former Gwanda mayor is the director of Sunrise Trading that rose to fame through Sunrise restaurant and studio in the 80s.

Famed for its sumptuous meals, Sunrise became a household name until 2008 when the country’s economy collapsed.

The debt-ridden Mpofu, who refused to surrender the mayoral vehicle when he left office, has had some of his properties attached by the messenger of court before.

Last year, Mpofu’s Volvo S80 vehicle and pizza making machine went under the hammer after he failed to settle a debt with Inclusive Financial Services, a micro-finance company.
