Mangoma hints at MDC-Renewal split

via Mangoma hints at MDC-Renewal split – New Zimbabwe 27/05/2015

MDC-Renewal treasurer general Elton Mangoma has indicated that the political outfit could be headed for a split.

Mangoma told a press briefing in the capital Wednesday that there were “irreconcilable differences” within the leadership.

“I wish to categorically make clear that I deny the allegations. Yesterday I was attacked under unclear circumstances at a place where the leadership must feel safe,” said Mangoma.

The former energy minister said he was disturbed by what he said was the complicity of some in the leadership.

“I am deeply disturbed by the use of violence under whatever circumstances to resolve issues and disputes. Violence is the reason we left the MDC-T and we continue to advocate for peaceful resolutions in any circumstances,” he said.

“I am particularly worried about the complicity of some of my colleagues in the party in arranging and coordinating the violence”.

Asked on the nature of his relationship with secretary general Tendai Biti, Mangoma said it could have been better, adding that the friendship that blossomed at the height of the two’s feud with MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai last year was no longer the same.

“It is not at the level that I would have wanted; I would have wanted it to be better but let us leave it at that”.

Reports have indicated that Mangoma is locked in a bitter tussle for control of the party with Biti ahead of a congress scheduled for October.

The former cabinet minister was attacked by an angry Believe Tevera Tuesday and sustained injuries to the head which was heavily bandaged as he addressed journalists.

Tevera is accusing the former energy minister of “snatching his wife”, Yemurai Maravanyika.

Tevera is a member of the Renewal Team youth assembly and has a two year old child with Maravanyika.

So how come there is violence in Renewal? If they split again will that be renewal renewal? Seems like there is a lot of questions now.

If it is always the same person involved in an issue, pointing fingers at others then surely he is the problem. He seems to be a snake in the grass. Mangoma and Tsvangirai both need to be ordinary card carrying members. Just my opinion.
