A Zanu PF official from Chirumanzu-Zibagwe constituency has accused the party’s parliamentary candidate, Auxilia Mnangagwa, of publicly insulting him and inciting party youths to assault him for allegedly defacing her campaign posters.

Mashoko Hlomayi (55) claims that the incident occurred at a Zanu PF rally in Mvuma on Sunday.

“I went to the meeting on Sunday, but as she was about to address Mnangagwa said she was not happy because there was someone at the meeting who was pulling down her campaign posters in favour of other candidates,” Hlomayi said.

“She asked the person to stand, but after no one stood up. She then pointed at me saying I was the one pulling down her posters. She said a lot of things about me before another person came and slapped me in the face. I then left and later that day some people came to collect bags of fertiliser I had been allocated under the Presidential Inputs Scheme,” he said.

He said he reported the matter at Mvuma Police Station under RRB number 0869988 and also sought treatment at Mvuma District Hospital.

Auxilia is one of the five candidates contesting the Chirumanzu-Zibagwe by-election on March 27.The other three candidates belong to opposition NCA, Transform Zimbabwe and Good People’s Movement Party while the fourth candidate is an independent.

The seat was previously occupied by Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa before he was elevated to the Presidium last December.

Contacted for comment on Tuesday, Auxilia denied the assault allegations, but confirmed that her campaign posters had been pulled down by unidentified persons.

“I don’t know about that (assault),” she said.

“I just saw my posters pulled down while those of other candidates were there and I told the people that the electoral law does not allow that. I told them that let’s contest each other in peace and that it’s the electorate which will decide on March 27.”
