HARARE – Ex-war veterans leader Jabulani Sibanda remains in police custody with sources saying he is likely to appear in court tomorrow facing charges of undermining the authority of the President.
Sibanda’s lawyer, Sobuza Gula Ndebele declined to give details of the whereabouts of the firebrand war veteran, who was arrested on Friday.
“I am not at liberty to say where he is because I have no authority from my client,” he said.
People linked to embattled Vice President Joice Mujuru are living in perpetual fear as reports indicate that more of those close to the vice president have been placed on a hit list to be targeted for persecution.
Online publications reported yesterday that Sibanda was detained in Harare and that his family was allowed to visit him.
Sibanda was arrested at his Kenellys Farm in Nyamandlovu by plain clothes officers who were reportedly dispatched from Harare.
The former liberation war veterans’ leader was bundled into a police van in front of his family members and driven to Harare where he was detained at an undisclosed police station.
“I can confirm that we were allowed to see Sibanda today and he is in high spirits,” a war veteran and a friend of Sibanda was quoted saying by online publications.
Sibanda, according to the State-controlled publications was arrested under the Criminal Codification Act for his utterances of a bedroom coup in the First Family’s house.
