Will Zanu PF now make up its mind?

via Will Zanu PF now make up its mind? – DailyNews Live 28 October 2014

HARARE – It is a fair question for Zimbabweans to ask President Robert Mugabe and his long-ruling Zanu PF party when the nation can expect them to make up their minds about the real cause of our country’s never-ending political and economic problems?

According to the heretical Zanu PF gospel, it was, first, Morgan Tsvangirai and his puny band of white commercial farmer supporters who were the reason for all of our myriad crises of the past 34 years.

Then it was the “racist” West and their “evil” sanctions who were causing all of our problems.

Of course, our rulers are always very happy to receive desperately-needed food and medicines when these are donated to us by the same evil Americans and British.

Now, it is the Vice President of the Republic — the beleaguered widow of the late decorated liberation war hero, Solomon Mujuru, Joice — who was put in that lofty position by none other than Mugabe himself, who is supposedly at the heart of the nation’s perennial political and economic crises!

It boggles the mind.

This is the reason why many Zimbabweans are asking when they can expect our rulers to make up their minds about the real causes of the country’s never-ending problems.

But let no one hold their breath in the vain hope of getting a cogent answer to this obvious question from the heartless overlords who have been in charge of the levers of state over the past 34 miserable years.

The truth of the matter is that our myriad and seemingly intractable problems since our supposed Uhuru from Britain in 1980 have got absolutely nothing to do with any of the popular scapegoats mentioned above.

Indeed, our misery has everything to do with the well-documented gross corruption of Zanu PF leaders, their shocking ineptitude and their murderous misrule.

The party itself, from Mugabe himself to his wife Grace, is now openly admitting to this incontrovertible truth via lapdog State media — thanks to its deadly factional and succession wars that are exposing its skeleton-laden cupboards.

Things are now so bad that black Zimbabweans today are worse off in all terms in “independent” Zimbabwe than they were under the minority rule of Ian Smith’s racist Rhodesia.

It’s pathetic.

The key question to ask is how much longer citizens of this once proud nation will allow these despicable leeches to continue to suck our blood dry?

There are only two reasons why Zimbabweans are suffering. The first is corruption. Some foreigners do not want to do business with us because of corruption. They fear that their investments will be wasted. Corruption has also seen unqualified people running important businesses and parastatals, hence all these fractures in our industry. The second is sanctions, which some people inappropriately call restrictive measures. Just go to Zimasco and ask them why they cannot sell or process their chrome ore, and they will tell it is certainly not restrictive measures on Mugabe.

So locally we should get rid of corruption. Internationally, snactions must go.

Its not because of sanctions that zisco cannot sell. Its because its not producing. How can they sell nothing?

But you just mentioned it even if Zimasco was to sell its chrome the proceeds would still end up in the pockets of the corrupt regime. What has happened to the diamond funds. Remember Zanu Pf officials (Chiyangwa (who owns a fleet of cars and failed to pay employees), Moyo (who claimed 10 million is nothing but fails to pay employees), Mugabe (who uses the meagre money in government on personal useless trips and his wife flying all over the country for useless rallies’ etc) has a tendency of getting people to work and not pay them but rather splash money on themselves. This why to me the sanctions excuse does not hold water.

True enough first lets get rid of the corruption then and only then we ask for the ‘targeted sanctions’ to be removed. At least if we can account for the diamond revenue and get that into the government purse then even if Zimasco was to export we would know its only adding to the government revenue not into someone’s pocket. While we are it we also need to get our priorities right.

It is a well known fact that when we point fingers at other there are three pointing back at us. It takes a mature, strong and humble person to admit their mistakes and failures. And then to go on and say, “let us begin to put things right.” We do not see that anywhere in Zimbabwe’s politics today. If we did we would start to see the emergence of true leadership.

    What Options Zimbabwe

The heart burns to inhabit blessings that the motherland bequeath upon a sire. Indeed in abundance they await the heir to inherit. There is no curse laid on your path you prince of the soil. Be not deceived therefore into believing that there is any other trail than the road laid before you.

As the sun rises it heralds the dawn of a new hope. A propitious light beams at a distance in a manner beckoning. The wise would allow the early morning breeze to nudge them on towards their destination. They take advantage of the ameliorating effects of the low temperatures that come ahead of the enervating midday heat to traverse the distance. For surely unless mettle is summoned greater tribulations are foreboding on the land. It may be in the nature of man to despair. Wailing and supplications would not set one on the road to Jericho. Being of good courage is all it takes.

Many have dreamt of riches in faraway lands. Alas; it turns out that this only meant drowning the soul in wine after back breaking toils of shift work. Talk not of the anguish suffered raising offspring on foreign soil or supporting siblings back home. Good cheer evades you even when smothered in whisky or distracted by navel gazing under the dazzling lights of faraway western cities. Like a shaman’s cauldron the emotions tear and stir your being into netherworld of dejection and trepidation. Clearly these are not the desires of your heart. Inside of you, right down to the marrow invades the question; are we a cursed nation! It is a pride that makes you feel incomplete.

Yonder, motherland is collapsing into a failed state. Every indicator in the unravelling events reveals that the famed ‘Zimba remabwe’ is in fact made of withering grass. As the approaching summer heat nears so is the certainty that unless doused with water and replenished with green grass the treasured adobe is a teetering tinder box. A single spark suffices to ignite the fires with more reprehensible intensity than the dew and thistles suffered in gathering fresh green thatch.

Just as the case with the western governments the Chinese will not come to the aid of Zimbabwe. It is in the legitimate nature of modern day capital to demand that the deficit of rule of law is corrected first before they can venture. Libya and now Iraq are still too fresh on the minds of our ‘fair weather’ friends from east. The truth breaks no friendship. Appreciation to ‘our’ all weather friends in Peking for close on 28 years since attaining independence would manifest in calling them zhing zhong. In the meantime all roads would lead through the Harrods of London.

The turning point in the balance of power in the Zimbabwe political matrix was September 1997. Since then all hope to re-establish central state control have been elusive. The entry into the political fray by the independence war veterans was like an ambush that was delivered with a force and tenacity of shock and awe. It was always going to be difficult to recover from such a heavy and unexpected blow. Let alone the fact of a mere mortal of 90 years of age.

In spite of denial all that Mugabe could hope for is to hold fort. Malice instinctively drives anticipation that perchance an opportunity will present itself to exact revenge. Holding on desperately he flips through the book of tricks but all in vain. Withholding title deeds on the land of their forefathers ignites the ambers of internal party strife. In essence the doddering geriatric is held captive. As if that was not enough nature swings in. The genius of all times, Rex Nhongo is taken away in an inferno that leaves him exposed. There is no getting out of this hell hole. Until ashes gather this adobe is on fire.

They cannot be shaken off. Co-option whets greater appetites. Having tasted the marvels of the honeypot, hitherto a preserve of cronies, they demand more. Whipping up nationalistic emotions further emboldens the circle of gluttonous of cronies. Under the veil of indigenisation they transmute into ‘robber barons’. Open asset stripping of state enterprises proceeds with utmost impunity. Under the weight of the ensuing stampede for booty that lasts over 18 years the national cake dwindles exponentially for sanity to prevail. Ominously, the rule of the jungle firms up. Like hyenas they slug it out till the last bone of the carcass vanishes. Where they can, in the ensuing brawl they unite but it is only for the purposes of fending off sanity.

Now standing totally demystified an abundance of determination invokes the ghost of the past. The veterans reveal who they really are. Grievously they declare the immortality of Wampoa – it is that force that was outsmarted during the contrived arrests of 1977. An unassailable dominance is established over their erstwhile senile colleague now trapped in their midst. Penance for the sins of the past is the real driving motivation. They will fight until both sides drop dead. Naturally ‘when elephants fight it is the grass that suffers’. Collateral damage would know no boundaries. If at all anything this development invokes state sponsored violence. Cynically, innocent civilians are subjected to ‘short sleeves’- a senseless type of state sanctioned violence that is reminiscent of the atrocities of Khmer Rouge. A moment of weakness turns into a culture of madness.

Now there is twaddle talk as Room is hurtling in the direction of a crumbling grass castle. Do not salvage what is left, they announce while conveniently shirking their responsibility under the sophisticated pretext of preventing chaos. What are the options? The hyperinflation of 2008 was sufficient pandemonium. GNU demonstrated that when dialogue is done in bad faith it is no panacea to the problem either. Because zanupf wants to be senior partners in any dispensation then cooperation is toil without fruit. In any case they have proved beyond reasonable doubt that they are incorrigible. Chimurenga is in essence a frenzied permanent revolution taking place in the 21st century.

Though too good to last, Tsvangirai’s hand made an impression that the nation craves for. The nation cherishes the action of 2007 that led to GNU because it allowed them to be heard and brought them a constitution, economic stability and growth. After July 2013 the nation finds itself once again facing charlatans who are at each other’s throats. Naturally, the nation cannot deposit confidence in a den of thieves. Again all the makings for descent into a failed state are upon the nation even without anyone calling for mass action. The blame is on the incumbent and his scavenging mates. It cannot elsewhere.

Perhaps lawyers would want to suggest that a case be filed with the courts of law – a curatorship of sorts. After SADC and the AU as guarantors there is no earthly court willing to entertain a deranged case like Zanupf! Naturally there are no willing suitors for courtship except the court of public mobilisation. We are on our own.

The economy is very much tied to the political situation in the country.ZANU PF politics is such that decisions are made by one person , Mugabe and only recently his wife. The members of this dysfunctional party are even advocating that Mugabe be given appointing powers at the December congress to appoint the two Vps and possible successor. It means that the general members of the party have no say in the leadership structure of the organisation.Likewise, the economy is waiting for the Mugabe signal.Whoever Mugabe is going to pick in December will provide an indicator on where we are going as a country. This is why the people should take back the country from the clutches of Mugabe. It is the people who should decide the fate of Mugabe not the other way round. The positions of First Secretary ,Second Secretaries and Secretary for Women Affairs should all be contested at Congress.By securing Robert and Grace Mugabe’s positions the party is slowly turning the two into untouchables and gods in the ZANU PF religion. The party is now a cult.Grace for instance believes that no one is as capable to run the country as her husband.
