via Zanu PF congress to seal Mujuru, allies’ fate November 29, 2014
VICE-PRESIDENT Joice Mujuru and her allies’ fate will be sealed at the 6th Zanu PF national congress that will usher in a new leadership and see major changes to the composition of the Presidium.
Despite a serious fight by the Mujuru camp to maintain the status quo ahead of the congress, party national chairman and acting spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said next week’s elective congress would see new leadership changes to push the party forward in the next five years.
Moyo, who was thrust into the party’s spokesperson role following the suspension of Rugare Gumbo, has so far failed to live up to the task by blocking journalists from asking questions each time he addresses the media.
Yesterday, he almost clashed with ICT minister and party national commissariat Webster Shamu who had wanted journalists to ask questions.
“The agenda for the 6th national people’s congress will be a very much packed one. As you know, the congress meets after every five years. A lot would have happened in the previous five years and also a lot will be expected to be deliberated on as plans, programmes and activities for the next five years,” Moyo said. “The congress will also usher in a new leadership that will carry the party forward in the next five years.”
He said that party leader President Robert Mugabe would on Monday afternoon tour the congress venue.
“As we all know, the congress runs from the 2nd of December 2014 to the 7th December 2014. Our delegates from the provinces will come into Harare on Wednesday 3rd December and the congress proper will start the next day on Thursday 4th December 2014,” Moyo said.
He said all departments involved in preparing for the congress were doing a great job and delegates would be accommodated in various lodges, schools and colleges in the city.
Under-fire Mujuru would likely come out of the congress an ordinary card-carrying member.
This followed attacks on her personality by faction members of the Justice minister Emmerson Mnangagwa and First Lady Grace Mugabe who accused her of engaging in corruption and extortion.
