Zimwomen Association Northamptonshire are holding the first ever Black Youth Awards ceremony in the area, to celebrate Black History Month, and are in need of nominations and sponsorship.

The women’s group, which is dedicated to empowering local women, young people and children to help them to build stronger, safer lives in the community, wants to celebrate the achievements of black youth aged 16 to 25.

The awards will feature six categories – Academics, Community, Sports, Art, Music and Young Entrepreneurship. A glittering awards ceremony and formal dinner is planned for November 30 2013 at the Aviator Hotel in Northampton – to be attended by the Mayor and Mayoress.

Chairlady Rutendo Nyatsine has appealed to the local business community to assist in sponsoring the awards to the value of £200 and/or prizes. “Our aim is to promote social and economic advancement of young people through advocacy, education and training, to promote cultural identity, values and positive images. We want young people to realise their full potential,” she explained. “We need sponsors who have a desire to give back to the local community. The event will be covered by BBC Northampton, local newspapers and other media. Sponsors will also get time to speak and display any marketing materials.” – If you would like to sponsor this event please contact Rutendo on 07951588733, or email zimwomennorthampton@ymail.com
