Zanu (PF) bigwigs linked to Vice President Joice Mujuru in Mashonaland East face expulsion from the party’s Central Committee after delegates expressed concern with some of the names of people who made it into the body.

During the Zanu (PF) Sixth National Congress, President Robert Mugabe said he had taken note of the concerns and urged delegates from Mashonaland East to “go back” and bring names of members whom they saw fit for appointment.

Mugabe’s remarks came after concerns from delegates from Mashonaland East that some of the people who had made it into the Central Committee were loyal to ousted provincial Chairperson, Ray Kaukonde.

Kaukonde is believed to be a close ally to Vice President Joice Mujuru who has been blamed for planning the assassination of Mugabe.

First Lady, Grace Mugabe denounced Kauonde in public during her Meet The People Tour in Mashonaland East. She accused him of fanning factionalism within the party.

Mugabe said Zanu (PF) members from Mashonaland East were free to choose leaders of their choice.

Some of the perceived Mujuru loyalists that could be affected include Paddy Zhanda, Joel Biggie Matiza, David Parirenyatwa, Mike Bimha among others.

Said Mugabe: “If you are not satisfied with the leadership, it is up to you to go and re-organize yourselves so that you give us the names of the leaders whom you see as fit for appointment,” said Mugabe to a thunderous applause from delegates from Mashonaland East.

During the congress, delegates implored Mugabe to do away with Mujuru loyalists whom they said were fanning factionalism within the party.
