ZBC to introduce multiple TV channels

via Bulawayo24 NEWS | ZBC to introduce multiple TV channels 22 February 2015

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) acting chief executive officer Mr Patrick Mavhura has said national broadcaster will be introducing channels that will be accessible only after paying a subscription fee.

Mavhura told Sunday Mail that switching over from analogue to digital, in less than four months, will result in the introduction of multiple channels.

Mavhura told the newspaper that “there is an internal project team that is 100 percent dedicated to the generation and stocking of content for the new channels. As you might be aware, we have been running an advert on television and radio calling for concepts and programmes from independent producers.”

He also said the process is on-going and according to the company’s plan it will guarantee enough content for the multiple channels.

“Digital migration will give the ZBC an opportunity to expand on the genres it will broadcast to its audiences. We intend to offer sport, children’s programming, 24-hour news and current affairs, formal and informal educational programmes, dramas, comedies, social documentaries, soaps and films/movies, among others. Mavhura says Zimbabweans do not have to worry about the quality of programmes as it is one of his priorities,” said Mavhura.

“In terms of quality, the ZBC is planning to give Zimbabweans the best, that is, high definition (Ho). It then follows that our local producers will have to adhere to the new ZBC technical specifications which are compatible with the new technology. These have been worked on and we will soon meet with the producers to discuss the new developments.”

I would be interested to develop a monthly teacher development program. This program would cover K-12 in all subject areas. A ppl would be made across grade levels and priority would be made in a fair and equitable manner. Internationsl donors will be solicited to provide donations and presenters on current developments in different subject areas including vocational subjects. I look forward to hearing from you.

Multi-channels from the ZBC will not make any difference. We need channels from other players. We are probably the only country left in Africa where there is just one government broadcaster.

In a country of such high unemployment opening up the airwaves would create so many jobs- producers, drivers, actors, anchormen, presenters etc but Mugabe is happy to see his people unemployed.
