THE house of MDC–T Bulawayo East MP Tabitha Khumalo was on Saturday attacked by unidentified people in an incident which the MP suspects is related to intra- party fighting.

Khumalo, who is also the party’s deputy national spokesperson told New Zimbabwe.com in a telephone interview that unidentified attackers descended on her Sauerstown house in the afternoon and stoned windows, broke door handles and painted graffiti at the walls, warning her from mobilizing support for Morgan Tsvangirai, the MDC-T president .

“I was organizing a road show to drum up support for our president’s rallies in Bulawayo when I learnt that my house was under siege from thugs. I strongly suspect that this attack is politically motivated,” she said.

Tsvangirai yesterday held rallies in Pumula and White City stadium Youth Arena explaining the party’s “no reforms, no elections” position.

Before Tsvangirai’s visit, there were strong fears of violent clashes between rival factions in the province. Some reports said so tense was the situation that Tsvangirai had to cancel other rallies which were scheduled for Luveve.

The MDC-T decision to boycott the June 10 by- elections meant to replace its 14 former legislators who were recently expelled from Parliament after they formed a rebel group, have caused a serious rift within the party with vice president Thokazani Khupe now reportedly leading a faction calling for Tsvangirai’s ouster.

Members aligned to Khupe have allegedly been mobilizing for demonstrations against Tsvangirai over the party’s stance not to take part in the elections.
