Vice-President Kembo Mohadi returned to the 23rd ZANU PF National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi on Saturday, a day after he was airlifted to Harare following a health scare.
Mohadi, who turns 77 on 15 November, fell ill on Friday soon after proceedings had started. He had taken his seat at the top table to the left of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, with fellow Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga on the President’s right.
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, Marian Chombo, was at the rostrum welcoming guests when a commotion broke out at the top table. Chiwenga was seen supporting Mohadi with his arm as the two disappeared backstage.
Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), George Charamba, later said Mohadi had become indisposed and was flown to Harare for treatment.
“Vice-President KCD Mohadi was taken ill soon after the commencement of proceedings at the conference. He was helped off the top table by his counterpart, Vice-President Chiwenga. He was then airlifted to the Trauma Centre in Harare, where his condition was stabilised,” Charamba said.
“President Mnangagwa was kept informed all the time.”
On Saturday, Charamba shared a picture of Mohadi accompanied by Chiwenga on their way to the main auditorium for the final day of the conference.
He said Mohadi was now in fine fettle after being hospitalised the previous day.
