A KARIBA magistrate on Monday slapped six Zambians with eight months’ imprisonment terms for trespassing into Zimbabwean waters within Lake Kariba.

The six, who were nabbed with 70 kilogrammes of fish, were convicted on their own plea of guilty of charges of illegally entering Zimbabwe by magistrate Toendepi Zhou.

Cretus Mwale (42), Jimmy Mwanga (35), Simon Phiri (35), David Chilonge (45) and two others who were not named in court papers and are from Kanyelele compound in Siavonga district reportedly entered the country on November 12 to illegally fish at Fothergill Island in Lake Kariba.

They were arrested by alert officers from the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.
