IT is all systems go for the Zanu PF National Cell Day today, as the revolutionary party embarks on a massive nationwide exercise to consolidate its grassroots support and streamline its internal structures.

President Mnangagwa will headline the ruling party’s Cell Day, where millions of Zanu PF members across Zimbabwe will gather for the crucial occasion dedicated to reinforcing the party’s grassroots structures and bringing leadership closer to the people.

Every successful movement is built on a solid foundation, and for Zanu PF, that foundation is the cell.

It is within the cell that communities engage directly with leadership, ideas are exchanged, new members are welcomed and solutions to local challenges begin to take shape. National Cell Day strengthens unity, promotes discipline and ensures that every member understands the party’s policies and developmental agenda.

The event serves as a strategic pillar for the party’s visibility, unity and organisational depth.

By 8am today, millions of party members across Zimbabwe are expected to convene at their designated meeting points to participate in this critical audit and recruitment drive.

In line with party protocol, President Mnangagwa will take his place among the rank and file, listening to his cell chairperson’s address and offering recommendations alongside fellow members.

This underscores the party’s principle that every leader, including members of the Presidium, is first and foremost a member of a cell.

In an interview, Zanu PF Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha said all party members from the lower structure to the Presidium will attend the cell and village meetings. A cell consists of 50 members.

He said President Mnangagwa as the First Secretary will lead from the front by attending the National Cell Day at Precabe Farm in Kwekwe together with his family.

“All is set for the big day tomorrow (today). All is going according to plan. We expect all provinces to attend the cell day in their respective cells and villages,” Cde Machacha said.

President Mnangagwa is expected to be at Precabe Farm where he will be addressed by his cell chairman. He will later give advice as the First Secretary of the party.

“The First Family will attend the cell day at their usual assembly point, so we expect all party members to attend,” said Cde Machacha.

He appealed to party members to carry their National Identity Cards to check if their names are captured in the party’s database.

“Members should carry their National IDs and check if their names are captured correctly in the database. We want to ensure our members are accounted for. We expect to see new members attending the meeting,” Cde Machacha said.

He appealed to provincial leaders to mobilise members for the big event and ensure names are captured correctly.

Various Zanu PF provincial leaders said the party’s machinery is well-oiled and ready for today’s activities.

Midlands Zanu PF provincial chair, Cde Edson Chiherenge, said the province is honoured to host the President.

“We expect all our cell chairmen to be at their usual assembly points at exactly 8am as planned. They should be with their cell registers as usual and ensure each and every cell member is in the database of their cell,” he said.

The province, Cde Chiherenge said, boasts of 14 211 party cells.

“Clearly, we are humbled and honoured to be hosting the President during this important day. It shows that he is a servant leader who is hands-on.

“As a province, we expect all members to be present at their usual cell meeting locations. The cell chairpersons will address the meetings to ensure the cell remains intact. The focus will be on verification and integrating new members, particularly those joining from the opposition.”

Harare province Zanu PF Harare provincial Political Commissar Cde Voyage Dambuza said all was in place, with over 11 000 party cell structures and 289 party districts ready for today’s vital meeting.

“All our senior party members must submit to the authority of the cell chairperson. If the cell is healthy, then the entire party structure above it is also healthy. We want genuine, authentic cells. There will be no room for borrowing structures or creating parallel ones,” Cde Dambuza said.

Some of the issues to be discussed at the meetings include a firm commitment to the national leadership trajectory and the continuation of the current development agenda.

Cde Dambuza said Harare province is completely behind the endorsement of Constitutional Amendment No.3 Bill in Parliament.

“We are fully behind the extension of President Mnangagwa’s mandate to go beyond 2028. As far as Harare is concerned, our primary goal is to ensure that President Mnangagwa remains in office until 2030. We also plan to discuss developmental projects within Harare itself,” he said.

Cde Tatenda Mavetera, the Mashonaland East provincial Secretary for Information and Publicity and Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, described the day as a “revolutionary renewal”.

“We must drive Vision 2030 to the grassroots, as the cell is the heartbeat of the party. President Mnangagwa has emphasised that the voice of the people is the voice of God; therefore, we must use this day to align the needs of the people with the national vision,” she said.

Mashonaland West provincial chairperson Cde Marry Mliswa-Chikoka expressed full confidence in the province’s over 10 000 cell structures.

She said the provincial leadership has established robust mechanisms to monitor the programme throughout the day to guarantee resounding success.

Cde Tawanda Mukodza, the Manicaland provincial chairman, highlighted an increase in the number of cell structures, urging leadership to prioritise first-time voters.

The cell remains the most vital unit of the revolutionary party. It consists of 50 members, led by a committee of 21 (seven each from the Main Wing, Women’s League, and Youth League), with 29 general members.

This structure ensures that the party remains a people-centred movement, where development projects and national policies are discussed and understood at the most local level.
